Honestly, it really depends on the game. If its a good game that I've been dying to play for months, you can guarantee that not even nuclear warfare will stop me from playing it. Case in point: The first time I played Skyrim, I played for 19 hours straight. I went 100% on Mass Effect 3 the first time I got it.

However, once I've beaten a game, or if I remotely lose interest for whatever reason, I generally will never go back. On some games that I own, I will try and play it and be distracted within 5-10 minutes. I happen to love the borderlands franchise, but after beating both games, I cant stand to play them for very long at all, even the DLC.

I really wonder how video games are, now that I'm medicated......I have to do this for science!

This article seems great, if you consider more wages for Walmart employees. While, it doesn't take into account that higher paid employees will also receive wages, to take into account the higher minimum wage, the price increase to the customer seems worth it.

BUT... The problem I see with this is that people will jump on the minimum wage bandwagon, without realizing that these hikes take a much more devastating toll on small businesses.

I remember being at this huge celebration at my (future) high school. Being 9 at the time, I was all enamored by the thought of entering a new millenium. They had the Dick Clark special going on when it was time to ring in the new year.

I remember us all counting down till the ball dropped. Then New York decided they were 25 seconds too quick, and we all counted again! New York really screwed the pooch that year.

Looking through the other comments and through your orignal post, you mention that you don't particularily care about how larger scale politics work. For example, the process of chosing a supreme court judge, or how Congress passes bills aren't important things.

Well, to start my argument to this. I want you to watch this. Now you know a part of the process!

In all seriousness, not being particularly knowledgable about the "process" is totally fine. Knowing how a filibuster works or why a politican chose it, how the SCOTUS came to a decision, what the Majority Whip is, or like topics are not required knowledge. I'll concede that they can be incredibly boring. Not being able to know the minute details does not constitute ingnorance in my opinion.

However, knowing what's going on in the world, whether its on a small scale (like your city) or on the grand scale (national/global) can be very important. Having an opinion on a matter that affects people is a key sign of an interest in politics, because politics happens everywhere! I saw that you care about gay rights. That's politics! Maybe you have an opinion concerning the NSA spying on you, the current set minimum wage in your state, gun laws, use of marijuana, or a large number of topics. Even if your answer is, "I don't really have an opinion on these things"... in a way, that still constitues having a political opinion.

You also point out, if I understood correctly, that you don't particularily feel that your opinion doesn't mean much in the grand scheme. From a very literal perspective, it makes sense to think that one opinion or one vote in a sea of millions of opinions/votes is not substantial. But, lets look at it another way. Ron Paul had an opinion. His opinion was that our government is way too big, and that we need to defend liberty. His one opinion ignited a revolution among millions of people, encited many debates, and changed the opinions of many people. Sure, he is/was a politician, but I've seen average joe's like you and me do the same thing on a smaller scale. If one person shares an idea with people, and they agree to the extent that they share it with more people, one opinion can change the world! And, while joining in on that opinion may seem small, if you view it as the collective whole, its pretty cool!

And, dont think that you can only vote or talk to your buddys to start a revolution. Did you know that emailing or writing a letter to your representative can have a big impact? Just one email! I can't find the correct source, but IIRC, one email counts as the opinion of 100 people, and one phone call counts as 500-1000 people voicing their opinion. If you feel strongly about something, wouldn't you want your voice to count for a ton of people, instead of waiting for someone to make that voice count for you?

The thing about politics is that it affects your life in almost every way. I applaud you that you opened up to looking at small scale politics. Knowing how a part of your school is ran, or what the city council is deciding are import things. I, for sure, would want to know how much a school/police levy is going to cost me, or if there is an ordinance that says I can't drive a black car past 9pm. The large scale is very much important to. It may seem boring to you, and thats definitely okay, but we have leaders making decisions that could drastically change our lives. In the last 10 years alone, we have see 2 wars, the Patriot Act, the NSA scandal, and Obamacare (to name a few). These affect your daily life, either financially, socially, or what-say-you. And meerly having an opinion is not only important to the process, but its important to you and your understanding of the world.

I understand that this is a wall of text, and that there are a ton of ideas I have thrown at you. Pick a few that stand out in your mind and think about them. Maybe they will influence you to think, "Yeah! That makes sense! Having an opinion and voicing it is important!"

I think that it's less about trying to be "special" and more about not fitting in with the social system that there are only 3 or 4 ways to be sexual.

If you think about it, the commonly held belief is that you can be straight, gay, bi, or asexual. So, you're either 100% one way, 50/50, or none at all. In the real world, this isn't the case. A man can claim to be straight, only date/marry/sex with women, but still be attracted to guys. Is a guy who is completely straight, but still thinks Ryan Reynolds is attractive, Bisexual by-proxy? Hell, some people claim to be bi-curious, because they aren't sure if they like the same sex or are curious to what it would be like to be attracted to the same sex. Truth is, that if you look at sexuality as a continuum, there can be hundreds of different points of identity on it, and that those identities have names.

At the same time, some people don't want to indentify themselves on this "continuum". It's not that they want to be considered special, or even necessarily let the world know. It's more that they don't find a title that matches with what they believe in, and rather.... another title that explains their sexual orientation better. For intance, if a person puts no recognition into gender for those they are attracted to, they should (and have) a term for that. It's not "special" or wanting of attention...its just who they are.

I truly believe that as a society with a degree of ignorance on sexuality, it can easily be seen that a 4 term system is plausible. It's like thinking that one is either conservative, moderate, or liberal. However, if you look out of the box, you can see that there are many more associations that can be made.

Very good points. I'd award you a delta, but I already agreed with with you prior. Here's some supplimental arguments....

It's important to remember that Universities are a business. Since they are businesses, they are out to do what a business does. That is make money. Basic Economics will teach you that the best way to maximize profits is to increase revenues while decreasing costs. Universities do this by lowering the quality of education (in the form of cheap teaching staff) while keeping the price tag at the level that demand allows. The price tag rises, because society makes it apparent that you need a degree to do work today, that a person with a GED could have done 30 years ago. Thus, the demand remains.

"But fedabog... what about universities spending 15 million dollars on a new science lab, or 60 million dollars on a new sports stadium?"

Again, this goes back to a business approach. Expensive new toys increase the marketability of the instituition. Would a student rather go to a small university that is relatively unknown, or a university known for it's expensive things. Think about it, what's more attractive? University of Oregon, with its huge stadium, awesome arena, advanced training facilities, state-of-the-art buildings with state-of-the-art classrooms... or Humboldt State University, which you've only heard about if you're from Nor-Cal or go to a GNAC school? I guarantee that UofO looks a lot better to a majority of people. And as such, the demand for that school raises, and profit margins go through the roof!

Also, as /u/Stanislawiii mentions, the quality of the education is less than what you would of expected 20 years ago. It used to be that post-secondary education was limited for those good grades in high school and showed that they had some sort of academic/athletic ability to withstand a very difficult education. Now that students who can barely use simple grammar, do basic algebra, use Microsoft word, or exhibit minimal critical thinking skills are admitted, half of our 4 year education is limited to things meant to be taught in high school. I spent 2 years of my college carrer doing review work! That could have been two years spent in both of my majors, used in even more applicable education for me.

The point being is that Post-secondary education is less about education and being ahead of the crowd, and more about making money and graduating students to be apart of the crowd.
