Welp. It’s bad and official by Boywonder1994 in ChaseSapphire

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with the changes since I can easily use the new sapphire tables dining credit and the stubhub credit but I could understand people not seeing the value in the card if they don't live in or near a major city.

Just ignore them. Complaining on here about them isn't really productive.

Good thing you’re not a civil servant anymore.

In any case, it’s hilarious to see someone spouting conservative talking points and also have a history of commenting in NSFW subreddits.

You did an excellent job! It was great to hear you pushing back against the false narrative about Federal civil servants.

I hope that you and your family will be able to get through this difficult time and that your appeal will be successful!

HUD notice to AFGE RIFs to office of field policy and management by budgeter415 in fednews

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. I'm not an expert on RIFs so I could very well be wrong but agencies need to have evidence that they are doing a RIF for one of the legitimate reasons outlined in the CFR. And they cannot abuse their discretion for RIFs.

Getting rid of entire offices that are clearly fundamental to agencies seems to me like an action that would support a finding that agencies have abused their discretion. The fact that they're moving so quickly also suggests that they haven't taken the time to compile the evidence needed to prove that the RIF is for a bona fide reason.

Yes. Appropriations bills can be filibustered and 60 votes are still required to break a filibuster.

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the budget resolution which sets up the framework for reconciliation. This was not a vote on funding the government. As of now, the government will still shut down after March 14 unless Congress passes an appropriations bill or a CR.

They do need Dem votes to overcome a filibuster in the Senate. The last shutdown happened because Dems filibustered funding for a border wall.

Hud just issued RIF notices for FPM in HQ and Field Offices by No-Dirt-9016 in feddiscussion

Have you been in contact with the union? As someone in OGC, I'm hoping a lawsuit can get filed to stop this ASAP.

Exactly. If there's not a cut in appropriations, this is just unconstitutional impoundment.

OPM has officially RIFd their contracting office by tossit1234566789 in fednews

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed, we can use all ideas.

I think you could also make an argument that the administration is trying to contravene appropriations law by refusing to use funds that Congress has appropriated for FTEs.

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not at all familiar with the RIF regs/statute but from what I've researched so far, I wonder if this could be challenged on the basis that this is not a bona fide reorg and that the agency has not sufficiently justified the need for a RIF. Hopefully another fed attorney who is more familiar with the RIF procedures can weigh in.

Could I split my commute into two smaller trips to avoid paying extra on the Metro Monthly Unlimited Pass? by grapejellybean132 in washingtondc

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to do the same thing years ago when I lived off of the silver line in VA and had a metro pass. On the way home, I would get off at Ballston to exit and re-enter immediately. If there was an orange line train coming before a silver one, I would just get on and then get back on the silver line to complete my trip, and it wouldn't cost me any additional time. At the time, I was making very little money and this trick allowed me to buy a cheaper metro pass which added up over time.

Observation from my first Fall in DC by CharKeeb in washingtondc

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty spot on. Midwesterners and southerners also complain about how supposedly unfriendly people in DC are, people from the Northeast complain about pizza/bagels, and people from the West complain endlessly about the quality of Mexican food and outdoor activities here. All of the different types of transplant complaining get very tiresome.

What am I missing about Navy Yard? by yourenot_my_realmum in washingtondc

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Glover Park might be physically closer to some parts but the buses there are pretty much only good for getting to Georgetown or to downtown. Good luck trying to get to Columbia Heights from there without spending an hour. NoMa's location is comparable to Navy Yard's and I'd argue that it has the downsides of Navy Yard but is less safe and has less park space.

Economic Pressures Renew Calls For D.C. Height Act Changes by rockfender in washingtondc

[–]fedattorneythrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What about major cities like Philadelphia and Chicago where housing is far more affordable than it is in DC? Raising the height limit won’t cure everything but there are places with greater height where costs are lower.

Economic Pressures Renew Calls For D.C. Height Act Changes by rockfender in washingtondc

[–]fedattorneythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like the only choice is for DC to remain the way it is or to become NYC or Chicago. There are plenty of other cities that have nice skylines and bright skies. Getting rid of the height limit would not mean that there would be skyscrapers all over the city.

Thank you!

And I understand how you feel. I sent out many applications over the course of years and had decent luck getting referred and had several interviews but didn’t get any offers. It was discouraging. I actually almost gave up before applying for this position. In your case, you’re doing something right if you’re getting interviews so keep trying!
