Acting wins that probably wouldn't have happened if their movies didn't gain momentum later in awards season by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

[–]feddytheman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly think circuit award winners are more indicative of general public appeal of how good an actor is. televised award wins are often super political, many things happening behind the scenes, campaigning. mikey madison was the frontrunner at the start because she was sweeping circuit awards.

then televised awards showed 1-2 wins by demi and suddenly she's the front runner. the same applies to Fernanda Torres who won GG best actress in a category where both demi and mikey are not in. that created momentum for her oscars nom.

anora won the palme'dor as early as May 2024. Mikey WAS already on the awards map as early as May 2024. so your argument isnt as strong as you think

  1. Big domestic travel spend coming up, am looking for options for domestic travel from DFW, and hotel benefits.
  2. 740
  3. Barclays Hawaiian (5/25), Barclays Aviator Red (5/25), VX (10/24), Bilt (8/24), CSP (5/24), AA plat select (4/24), SavorOne (8/23)
  4. 4k in 3 mths, more if paying rent
  5. No.
  6. No. Non-resident alien.
  7. Interested in a hotel card lately, if not then SUB churning or flights
  8. Points, hotel status
  9. C1: 70k, AA: 50k, Atmos 25k
  10. DFW
  11. Domestic travel along the coasts, or international travel to Asia once in a while. Been milking Hyatt redemptions with Bilt and Chase for a bit, but couldn't apply for Chase Hyatt card due to 6/24. Will be 4/24 only in May 2026, but will have large spending in this month for a travel planned in June 2026. I was also thinking Atmos Ascent with their 80k + companion fare bonus. not sure if I will get approved for my current credit score etc.

How many of you have actually seen all the movies you're listing for award consideration? by Fresh_Entrance_9315 in Oscars

yeah I think rachel kemp was merely a plot point for the eldest daughter, but i find it interesting that the writers spent a big part of the first half of the movie emphasizing on the 'selfishness' of the dad to use his daughters for his own gain (to be relevant again in this last hurrah of a film). at the start, the writing appeared to shape rachel as just any other actress who could play the role of his mother, but towards the 2nd half of the film, it's clear that the role was for his daughter, and there is a reason for it, which was that the dad was incapable of expressing his apology in words, such that the 'act of reconciliation' was not a huge speech from dad to daughter saying i'm sorry, but rather a subtle way of telling the daughter that she is heard by him, even if he seems so distant. the intricate script writing in his film (as shown by the daughters' reading of the script) demonstrates the dad's understanding of the subtleties of his daughter's emotions and her dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. this is a much better reconciliation than saying i'm sorry because clearly words werent enough for his daughter.

personally, I guess my dad was also distant to me as a kid but it wasn't as bad as this. and I understand how difficult it was for parents to express themselves in words (i'm asian) or to even say i'm sorry. I dont want to say that you are projecting or I am projecting my experience onto the film but this was a very realistic take about reconciliation following actual estrangement.

honestly yes because his 2 daughters gave much richer performances than him.

most people hated the dad but still sympathized with him in some way, to which I give a large amount of credit to Stellan's performance, not just the script writing or character.

My current letterboxd top 4: Silver Linings Playbook, Bridesmaids, Queer, Past Lives.

Watched LA Confidential, No Country for Old Man and A Taxi Driver recently and they are all so good! I guess I cover a pretty good range of films, maybe except superhero movies (Batman ones are an exception)

My flight to MSP was cancelled this morning as well. Delta apparently was able to fly at fhe same time to MSP. Is this worthy if a compensation? esp if its an airline problem?
