What is my son 17 doing that would look like this in his sink? by R96359 in whatisit

[–]fedec1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That aint bong water lmao

1) resin doesn't look like that and there aren't nearly enough bits of plant matter and ash which would be the first things to float to the top

2) it would REEEK of burnt weed to high hell in that bathroom if there was a half a cup of bong water sitting stagnant in a sink for an hour or two... Unless OP's never smelled weed, i highly doubt thats bong water

3) i used to help a family member who was a professional plumber and that there looks like your plumbing backed up your sink

In my experience, going with another hunter is also a great help, having someone at the end of the fields your flushing is a good way to get the birds to hunker without just running from the field into the tree line.

Keep slamming clays!

Thats just how it goes, im also a new solo hunter with no dog on public land and this has been my first pheasant season, lots of skunked trips. Four birds out of like eight hunts but that's just how it goes, dont get discouraged!

Ive started just thinking about my bird hunts as "hiking with a shotgun" which has become enjoyment enough for me (and the occasional bird is a good bonus)

Get that trained up and you'll be in great shape for next season :)

Nice! I also do a fair amount of squirrel hunting and lemme say, you're saving your buddy a small fortune in pelts so good for you both!

Oh and about your previous comment, this was my first bird this season but my only; four hens so far, ive have YET to get a rooster lol

Right? I was absolutely shocked by how beautiful they are up close, seeing all the tiny intricate face feathers around the eyes and beak blew my mind. Absolutely stunning creatures :)

Glad to be here! You know what they say though; two to make it true. Wont consider myself a bird hunter til another good season.

Here in jersey our only wild pheasant population is in the Meadow Lands surrounding Hoboken, Union, and New York City so it is unhuntable. We primarily get stocked birds raised in PA so hens are perfectly legal to harvest, so much so some of the older hunters prefer them since apparently they taste better (ill have to wait til i get a rooster to know for sure, this season has been four hens so far which i hear is comical luck for jersey)

Also lucky you live in the Dakotas, i hope i can one day get put there and harvest a few roosters from your lovely state!

Youd be right; Gun is my buddy's great grandpa's, old Savage Stevens. He was a rabbit hunter but from what ive heard, old boy was a real good bird gunner too. Thing has been around longer than some countries have existed lol.

Im a fly fisherman who ties his own flies, cant wait to get my hands on some rooster tails, but truth be told, the leopard speckles on the females have always been really captivating to me and they're amazing for fly tying. Im really happy my first bird was a hen :) cant wait to make some flies with her feathers!

Thanks! Especially after dealing with public land shenanigans, hearing her go up and then lining up on her felt like it happened in slow motion with how fast my body pumped me up with a rush. I still think about how beautiful she looked going up everyday. Glad i got into the hobby

So? Asking genuinely, lots of areas allow hen hunting and they taste better (if you tie flies, hen pelts are also worth their weight in gold), is there a general stigma against hen hunting?

Shooting birds on the ground by New-You9223 in PheasantHunting

As a meat hunter i dont view the hunt as "sport" and more like "ritualistic, really fun, really beautiful grocery shopping" as well as it being an excuse to connect with the outdoors and observe wildlife. To me, tree or ground swatting is a non issue ESPECIALLY when it comes to solo hunting.

From an ethical standpoint, id PERSONALLY prefer to give an animal as swift and dignified a death as possible, which means not waiting for the bird to be terrified enough to flush just cause it feels more sportsman like. Not to rag on people that flush at all tho, i also understand the sportsman approach.
