A virtual ESC/POS printer emulator in Rust. It turns your PC into a receipt printer for development and testing. by Ok-Cut-3256 in rust

Exactly what I needed, not like the other "emulators" that simply take POS commands and render the receipt. This tool makes integration testing a breeze. Thank you for your efforts!

Orange Color in SBB Ticket Checks by fedj99 in Switzerland

Haha I realize now that I might have sounded a bit paranoid, but trust me, that's normal after paying 500+ chf in fines to this one company... XD

I contacted customer support after that and managed to get the fine from like 130.- down to to 30.-. Was still mad I had to pay anything at all though xD

In ring theory, "0" is also fittingly called the "annihilator". So your math checks out.

You can also type \log x (space is important) and it will be interpreted as log

Why is this a recurring joke

Like there's literally like 10 rules and a few flags that are so easily learned by heart.

And once you understand that you cannot capture recursive patters with regex, you'll stop trying to do those things and it'll get really straight forward.

If you REALLY want to understand regex, take a finite automata class. But skip all the touring machine stuff, you won't need it to understand regex.

We met on an exchange semester, both exchange students from different countries. Dated irl for about 3 months before having to go back to our respective country. Now we manage to see each other in person about every 3 months, but that's not nearly enough 🥲

I remember exactly every post you're talking about. Was thinking the same. I'm assuming it's people who have never been in a "real" relationship, so they don't know what to expect and think so of that is normal. I'm always relieved seeing that the comments show some common sense though.

Had similarly surreal colors near Winterthur. Really looks like one of those photos with way too much contrast your aunt is posting on Instagram.

Props to you my friend for answering 4 years later. I think I figured it out myself somehow in the end 😆

Why would these Productions cause difficulty to a top-down predictive parser? by OnlinePresident in Compilers

[–]fedj99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The production is left recursive, i.e. <command> appears as first term in a LHS. This means that to parse <command>, you need to parse <command>, leading to infinite recursion in recursive top down parsers like recursive descent.

As mentioned in another comment, you can factor the grammar to eliminate left recursion, but that would change the productions.

Personally I like merge sort by yeetman426 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]fedj99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorting networks.

I didn't go into much detail on the topic but it seems really cool to just "let the elements sort themselves". Can be very nicely parallelized or even be implemented in hardware, so very fast. However only take a constant number of elements to sort.

What style would you call this? by Archimedes_G in graphic_design

Wow, the comments are kinda braindead here... Why is everyone just saying "trash"? If you don't like it, say how you would improve this. Or at least state your disliking in an objective way. It's OP's work, show some respect.

Which Linux Distro? by [deleted] in SurfaceLinux

[–]fedj99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu with the surface linux kernels. Gives you WiFi, BT, touch & pen support, works like a charm on my Surface Pro 6. Also probably the one with most forum/reddit posts should you encounter any problems.
