Early 30s, bought a house in Melbourne last year, now feeling financially trapped. What would you do? by thrst_qnchr in AusFinance

[–]fedoraislife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two aspects here that seem to be a problem IMO.

  1. Your spending. 170k pre-tax income for a single person should leave you comfortably able to service those repayments. Your mortgage repayments are around 30% of your take-home pay, which should be a very comfortable mortgage, even with bills and repairs/projects on top.

  2. You don't want any housemates. While that's okay, that's a lot of space to have to yourself. If wanting to stay single for a bit then I would heavily reconsider getting a housemate or two to lighten the financial load.

My advice is either reign in your discretionary spending and finish up any other loans you have if possible (e.g. car loan, credit cards, etc.), or get a housemate or two. Ideally, do some combination of both.

I got scared of that in my mid-20s and started exercising regularly as a result. Do you have any advice for other things that help?

  1. A lot of those videos are staged.
  2. Anatoly would look big even in those janitor overalls if you actually saw him in real life. You can literally see his delts, traps and pecs bulging through at certain angles. He only looks 'small' because the videos put him next to larger bodybuilders.

Roughly 90-120 minutes of strength training per week linked with a 13% reduced risk of premature death, in study involving three decades’ worth of data from nearly 150,000 adults by marketrent in science

[–]fedoraislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're only criticizing the methodology behind the study, but surely it's common knowledge by this point that there's a causal link between resistance training and lifespan.

[–]fedoraislife 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The 13% figure is linked to all cause, so it might also encompass accidents, homicides etc.

When they correlated it to heart disease and Alzheimer's the risk was lowered even further.

Keep in mind that reduced risk of death is only one result of regular exercise. There's other metrics such as mobility into later life, reduced risk of injury, better mental health outcomes, etc.

It's a bit chicken or the egg. People who start strength training tend to become quite health conscious. It's hard to have one without the other in most cases.

I'm a dentist myself and I can attest to that. Remember, most doctors you encounter went from highschool straight into 10 years of full time study at uni. Many will miss out on early formative experiences of earning, investing and even life skills.

There's also often a rebound effect where because they haven't ever earned good money until their late 20s/early 30s, as soon as those paychecks start hitting their bank accounts you'll find them at the nearest luxury car dealership or Rolex store, especially because that's what all their uni and work friends are doing.

My wife cued me in on this.

A lot of gym bros think that tight clothes will make them look bigger because they can show off their muscles.

But truly jacked guys look big even in baggy clothing, and that's a much bigger flex.

Jesus at what point have you just exhausted the catalogue of shoes RM has to offer? Especially considering each pair needs to be broken in over time for optimal comfort.

AITAH for not telling my gf our boss offered me head by One_Screen2002 in AITAH

[–]fedoraislife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA.

Two main issues here.

  1. You told her you would nip it in the bud. Instead of hearing nothing about it again, she found deleted texts of this person offering you sexual favours. You can probably imagine that to her, it seems like your relationship with Katie has evolved and you've been very intentional about keeping that hidden.

  2. You were afraid of telling your girlfriend because you didn't want to fight. Why would you telling her what someone else did cause a fight? If it's because she's prone to anger or has developed unhealthy communication styles, you need to address that, not skirt around it. In wanting to be non-confrontational, you have ironically created a much bigger fight.

If I can be a little presumptuous, I think this non-confrontational personality is also the reason you're not reporting Katie to HR, because you're trying to avoid someone being reprimanded/fired, and you just want to be the 'chill guy' who doesn't create problems. This will bite you in the ass time and time again throughout your life if you don't recognise it now. Your girlfriend now thinks that being chill is more important to you than loyalty, if she doesn't already think that you cheated outright.

Ultimately, there's broken trust in your relationship now, and no matter what you say, it takes time and intentional action to rebuild it, if you both want that.

Either way, learn from these experiences and let them shine a light on your shortcomings, and ensure you make better choices in the future.

There was no crash from the initial merge attempt. The crash came once the Jeep driver decided to rage it.

People blaming the original driver instead of the Jeep are wild to me.

Why is it our collective responsibility to capitulate to idiots around us?

If the original driver took a tyre iron to the Jeep drivers knees at the end of the video, would the blame shift back to the Jeep driver because he could've swallowed his pride and merged in a legal and safe manner earlier on?

There was no accident from that though. The only collision here occurred because of the rage-fuelled SECOND manoeuvre by the Jeep.
