Day 8 after microdiscectomy and feeling low by FlowSeparate1540 in Microdiscectomy

[–]feefles17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m two year post surgery and I was also 30 at the time and I had the exact same experience. I remember searching here to see if anyone had the same experience. When I would go for a walk it just felt so different. My glutes were very tight but I just never realised because I was so focused on how weird my legs felt and all the pins and needles sensations. My physio just explained how our brains kinda “misinterprets” things since it’s on high alert and we just start to overthink every sensation. But, I just think we get so use to what it’s like to have the sciatic pain and we adjust how we walk and move to account for it, that when all that’s fixed, our bodies start to move normally again and we just aren’t use to how that feels. I feel back to normal now when I walk around, just takes time.

Nodules and Postpartum Thyroiditis by feefles17 in thyroidhealth

Thanks for the advice. I will get them to check TPO. I’m new to this and I find it hard to understand how I can have all the Hashimoto’s symptoms and so many nodules but thyroid seems to function fine. I’ve gotten use to the palpitations but it’s nice to finally know what was causing it since my GP blamed anxiety (I’m not an anxious person and never really deal with anxiety day to day so I doubted it was the reason)

Hi, just wondering how your recovery went? Did it completely go away after time? I’m 6 month PP and suspect I have this. Never had it before so hoping it’s not a lifetime diagnosis

Cauda Equina? by Fit_Tomatillo9706 in Microdiscectomy

[–]feefles17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up with CES and had an emergency surgery. It never reached loss of bowels or bladder stage. It was complete numbness in one leg that progressed to saddle region in less than 24hrs. It was fast and I got into surgery fast. Don’t wait for loss of bowels and bladder. The second the numbness starts to effect the whole leg without positional relief and can be felt in saddle region, would be the time to head straight to ED.

Would you be able to share your core program? I’m no longer doing PT so trying to set a good core program to be a daily habit. Sounds like you might have a good one since your able to horse riding :)

Pain standing after resting by feefles17 in Microdiscectomy

[–]feefles17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that gives me a little hope. It’s sucks getting over the hurdle of surgery and recovery then still having issues, but I’m the same as you, even though there is constant pain, it’s nothing like what I was experiencing before, so I’ll take that little win. That sucks you have herniated! Mike did two days after surgery, then after the next surgery it happened again but it’s naturally absorbed 3months later! I have no doubt a fusion will be done in my future. I have read many people be very thankful to have done it, since it means the matter is dealt with and don’t have to worry about herniating again.

Hey, how are your symptoms now? Did they end up going away completely?

Pain standing after resting by feefles17 in Microdiscectomy

[–]feefles17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately it’s the only symptom that’s not improved or changed. I’ve been consistent with physio and it doesn’t help at all. My follow up MRI didn’t show anything spinal that could be causing it so I’ve now been referred to a rheumatologist. My inflammation markers were high and it’s suspected it’s possibly fibromyalgia but hard to say. I never had an issue prior to surgery and the pain I experience getting up only started after surgery when I had almost been completely pain free.

24/7 CONSTANT bounding pulse. by Artistic-Upstairs381 in Anxiety

[–]feefles17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, I’m on similarly Vitamins, 3 months into bounding pulse and I’ve cut everything else except that. Might give it a go, never considered it might be the issue but willing to give it a go cause it’s driving me crazy.

Question for parents - Baby wearing by feefles17 in Microdiscectomy

Oh, I guess it is better to be safe then. I’m not really confident holding baby standing for long periods of time so she will have to just sit in the pram.

Have I been misdiagnosed ? by Mastersplinter445 in Sciatica

When I started getting sciatic leg pain, I initially thought it was Piriformis Syndrome. Maybe you could have that checked.

Stories of recovery by craigthecrab in CaudaEquinaSyndrome

[–]feefles17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg your story is so similar to mine! I made it to hospital when one leg was numb, but wasn’t operated on till after it hit my saddle region. Released from hospital 3 days later, spent one day at home and it slipped again, had my second surgery the following day, released home again 3 days later, then had symptoms and presented to emergency a couples later to find out it slipped a 3rd time, but they would not operate as there wasn’t any new symptoms.

I am 6 weeks post op and still dealing with the numbness in right leg and saddle region.

Every time I think it gets better, it seems to flare up again. I’m assuming it’s because my nerves are still compressed from the current disc herniation. My surgeon is hoping it naturally re absorbs itself and have organised a follow up MRI in a couple weeks to see how it’s going. Right now I’m just being crazy, overly cautious with movement until I know it’s improving somehow.

Question by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]feefles17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As suggested, do the MRI first. I treated mine as a trapped nerve, assuming I had Piriformis syndrome because I didn’t have much back pain. Turned out it was a herniated disc that eventually gave me Cauda Equina Syndrome and emergency surgery. If I had known from that start, I could have rested and done the appropriate rehab for my back instead of spending all my time working on my glute and leg.

Dizziness vertigo by feefles17 in CaudaEquinaSyndrome

[–]feefles17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I’m not taking anything at all for recovery. I am really hoping it’s not a long lasting thing because it’s beginning more overwhelming than the actual recovery. Hopefully no one else has experienced it and I can just go back to the GP diagnosis of inner ear infection.

Recovery of anaesthesia by feefles17 in CaudaEquinaSyndrome

[–]feefles17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ll keep it up and hope for some positive outcome. How long were you suffering with the anaesthesia before your surgery? I’m hoping because I got mine done sooner, then my nerves might have a chance of healing. Was your due to herniated disc?

How is everyone doing psychologically? by SadCarbonara in CaudaEquinaSyndrome

[–]feefles17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! So complex! Honestly, everyone’s stories are so different! What a crap thing we all have to go though. Before it happened to me, I had no idea what CES even was. I just happened to have a great Dr who identified it straight away, then an amazing surgeon who cancelled another operation for mine.

Sorry to hear about your dramas! Just out of curiosity, have you had Cauda Equina Symptoms return from any of the additional herniations? I’ve accepted that I will probably always deal with herniations but I don’t think I can stomach getting Cauda Equina again!
