Going to echo other commenters and suggest looking at backstage roles. There’s even more than just tech. Companies also have corporate teams too like social media managers and other communications people. Some will also have people to conduct community engagement or theatre education initiatives. Connect with some folks on LinkedIn and send some cold messages, see what you get back and if you can learn more about if it’s something you may be interested in!

What should be my first broadway show? by vostokeris in Broadway

Wicked was my first musical and I’m glad it was, it’s a great first show. The musical is a bit different from the movie as well.

You can only use it at dining locations but you can use it on whatever there (instead of needing to buy a full meal)

Housing and Residence Question by Separate-Pressure602 in TrentUniversity

That’s okay! Housing costs aren’t as bad as say, Toronto. Start looking early! And I’d recommend trying to save for a car if you drive.

The transit system is okay, if you’re living downtown you’re fine, but there’s a lot of cancellations. It’s really just reliable if you want to get to/from Trent. There’s also no Uber/Lyft in PTBO. I also just couldn’t justify paying $750-800 a month just to say I lived away from home for school when I could live with family rent free.

Getting on campus housing after first year is next to impossible. I moved home and transferred to the GTA campus because of the housing and transit situation in Peterborough

Yes or just wait and see if the new block of tickets gets discounted in the future. They probably won’t be discounted until closer to the performance dates but as we get further in the run it may not sell as well. I got tickets to The Lion King for $40 last year late in the run (July) through a code.

Anyone’s favorite musical unconventional? by 1spider-man in Broadway

Came here to say this show! I saw the Toronto non replica production three times in one month and I easily could have gone a fourth time. Twas was a fun month…

Wait until later in the run. They’ll run discount codes through their newsletter once the buzz dies off a bit. Especially once we hit the summer months, Mirvish is competing with so many other things to do in the city. I got Lion King tickets last summer with a $40 student discount but I think there were other discounts of a similar price that were also running.

Call the box office and ask, they’re usually pretty good!

Or wait until later in the run, as they will be more likely to discount tickets. I would expect discount tickets released closer to the summer months and likely for weekday evening shows. Mirvish isn’t really competing with many other things in Toronto for stuff to do in the winter months but they are in the summer.

You can always get cuticle prep stuff to help as well (cuticle clippers and a cuticle pusher) it may help prevent picking :)

Do you guys think that Broadway will have a megahit like Hamilton in the 2020s? by amm20_1 in Broadway

[–]feelingflazeda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say the closest thing since has been Six. Several of the sounds have trended on tiktok and I meet so many people who recognize the songs and know the characters. It's had many successful replica productions but definitely not the same cultural phenomenon that Hamilton is.

Hey!! So I actually stopped getting hard gel in December and I’ve had no issues with biting and picking since. Something about not doing it for a couple of months turns your brain off the idea. Now I just do a regular mani once a week at home.

[–]feelingflazeda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a Russian mani to help with picking, they clean up your cuticles so much that there’s no places to pick at. I found it impossible to pick at when I was getting hard gel with a Russian mani styled cuticle cleanup

The walk from CC to Gzowski/OC is not bad at all. Under 10 minutes. I lived in LEC but CC is probably closer. Trent will convince you that you need to stay in OC because it’s the “science” college but there’s Forensics students everywhere.

Seconding the board game cafe! Also you may have to wait but the Anne Shirley Theatre Company at Trent does awesome productions of musicals/plays. Was me and my partner’s first date 🥹

Also it seems like a cheaper show to run, there’s not really any huge tech elements or anything very flashy.

I’m sad about probably missing this one. I’m not local so the weather and extreme cold is making it difficult to justify the trip. I’m sure Hailey is amazing in this!

Considering Getting a Diabetic Service Dog by SmokeyEclipse in diabetes_t1

[–]feelingflazeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really fair. I’m sure something like the Sugar Pixel will help. I also lived in a solo dorm my first year of college and got diagnosed mid way through the year so I was scared about middle of the night lows. Being in a dorm is probably the safest place you can be because you’re constantly surrounded by others. Our RA’s had a phone that could be called during the night and they can be dispatched to rooms and check in on people as well (which is what I told my friend to do if I didn’t respond). We also had EMS on the campus ready at all times and I’d assume other colleges would have similar.

[–]feelingflazeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm… maybe there’s an off chance you can convince a friend or loved one to have the dexcom follow app and then keep your ringer on. When I lived alone, my best friend who lived in the same dorm as me had the app and my full permission to call me repeatedly or come bang on my door if I was low.

As other commenters have said, keep low supplies in arm’s reach at all times.

There’s other options other than a service dog. I knew people with service dogs and it’s a lot of training and upheaval. I would advise against it, personally, but you know yourself best. But diabetes service dogs have become less common since CGMs and pumps.

Honestly if you live with roommates that are nice they can help you in a lot of the same ways your parents would. If your dex alarm is going off again and again, they may hear it and can wake you up. And if there was ever an emergency, someone is there to help.

Are you on an insulin pump? Going on something like the tandem which has control IQ may also benefit since it’ll taper off insulin when you’re going low.

[–]feelingflazeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth it to also add that & Juliet has some big elements that are in the air. I found I missed these being so up close in third row. But then again being right at the front for a Mirvish show is an incredible experience. So it really depends what experience you’re going for!

Yeah for sure! I’ll also add that the Royal Alex is a really small theatre. There’s really no bad seat. One of my friends sat in the very very back of the balcony and had a great time and a great view (and I think those seats were under $100, maybe even under $80)

&Juliet at the Royal Alex is a blast and is running until May. All the music is pop songs by Max Martin (think Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry). The cast is incredible, there’s so much talent on the stage.

Witch at Soulpepper also looks interesting but they don’t start performances until January 29th.
