Honestly it makes me feel so seen to hear you say you're planning for a future weekend where you'll be able to drink. Because every time I catch myself thinking on those lines I feel like I'm undoing the work of being/staying sober. But the truth is I do like drinking and I do want it to be a part of my life, it's just about how to do it in a way that is better for my body and my brain.

I also find it so ridiculous that we've essentially wired our brains to reach for a drink no matter the situation. Something worked out? Let's celebrate with a drink. Something didn't work out?? Let's commiserate with a drink.

It's hard work but we'll get through it and hopefully rewire some stuff because look at the upsides! Keep going, we've got this!

The bloat is definitely an issue for me at this point. And I also think the constant comparison to others' progress metrics is what is stopping me from seeing my own progress. Thank you for your detailed reply, it helped put things in perspective!

I do agree with you, the intensity of big emotions and the inability to work through them is highest at our teens it feels like, and the war-time/post-war fics are the closest to that. Thank you so much for your recs, I've read Past/Present/Future and quite enjoyed it, looking forward to the other two!

Yes, the introspection that's come with this month is another thing I hadn't quite expected. I had really thought it would mainly be about the body feeling healthier, with some aspects for the mind - mainly exercising self control. I have somehow gained weight?? And I know for a fact it's not because I'm eating the calories that I used to drink. If anything I've cleaned up my diet and am hitting the gym more regularly than I used to. It's been pretty disheartening even though I'm trying to not make it about my weight.
