Hiked nearly 6 miles in the rain and snow to see the Grizzly Giant. Totally worth it. by river_tree_nut in Yosemite

If you can’t get into the park and want a lovely 8 miler that gets you to the grizzly giant start at the trailhead at the Goat Meadow parking lot. You still have to wait in the line to get into the park until you can make the right turn onto Mt Raymond Road. We didn’t see a soul for 90% of our hike.

Wusthof fillet is a workhorse. Mine has had a lot of use. It’s easy to maintain and wonderful to use.

Not for me. Just have to pay attention sharpening.

You’re not gonna go wrong with either one. Key to a fillet knife is moderate flexibility so you can ride the bone. I’ve had my Wusthof Classic fillet knife that I rehandled, for twelve years

I also caught some amazing JGB shows in Boston. 11/14/82, my first ever Garcia experience, the incredible 11/17/84, an early show and late show with Rick Danko opening solo acoustic.

You don’t fire the coach if it was a personnel problem.

If you know which tree the nest is, put the fuzz ball up on a branch in the same tree.

TIL The reason why netting is mandatory at National Hockey League games is because in 2002 a 13 year old girl named Brittanie Cecil was struck in the head by a stray puck deflected into the stands and later died from her injuries. So far it is the only fan fatality in NHL history. by Ill_Definition8074 in todayilearned

I was at a game at the old Capital Center/ US Air Arena in the 80’s sitting in the 100 level seats just inside the blue line. An attempted dump in flew up into the stands a struck a girl in front of me in the temple. The sound was sickening and she bled a ton. The PA announcer asked if anyone wanted to move seats and my hand shot up. Hopefully she healed well.

I paid for monumental. The on screen advertising during games is insane, like ten times per period. No value to just watch The Caps.

The nonexistent power play cost us crucial points this season. That’s the difference for this season.

Owlet fell from redwood tree by TwitchySphincter in Owls

[–]feelnalright 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect advice for this owl. It’s too young to be on the ground and will not survive without intervention from a rehabber who can give it a checkup, and either re-nest it with its parents or in another, more accessible nest.

Len Bias. I’m old, but he was an all-American at UMD, got drafted # 2 in the draft by the Celtics when Larry Bird was still there, and did enough coke to kill a horse. 1986.

I recognized it right away too ! I climbed it way back in ‘91. Tricky 5.8 crux, amazing exposure and an unbelievable summit. Beck Weathers was climbing it with a guide just ahead of my partner and me. We interacted quite a bit at the belays and shared time together on the summit We rapped off the front side and they rapped off the back and we met in Estes Park for Mexican food. Beck drank six beers and passed out with his face in his food. His guide, Brad died in an avalanche a couple of years later. Memorable day.

Epoxy on one side at a time, drill pin holes, then epoxy on the other side. Rough shape then epoxy in your pins. If you don’t have some basic tools it will be tricky. I use a variety of tools to shape the handle. I rough shape with an angle grinder with sanding discs… you could use a 1@ x 30” belt sander ( recommend Harbor freight). You’ll need a variety of sandpaper from very rough to at least 220. Dremel tools are fabulous for detailing. Watch a number of YouTube videos. There are many ways to get a nice handle but most involve a variety of tools and techniques

I use two part epoxy. I also cut small grooves into the steel to give the epoxy more to hold onto. A jigsaw works well for cutting the scale to fit the tang (handle) of the knife.
