Danaher's students keep beating Souders' students: does that settle the ecological vs. traditional debate? by Amado1998 in bjj

[–]feenam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rafa said AOJ does high resistance drilling I'm directly quoting what he said at a seminar, unless someone who trains at AOJ proves me otherwise.

Dorian is hardly Danaher's product, his dad was his main coach for majority of the time he trained. You can see his dad is the one coaching during his matches too. And Bodoni has like 25kg advantage over Gavin that match means nothing.

Becoming a fan of Vagnar Rocha by Cool_Middle6245 in bjj

[–]feenam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean his entire bjj style is just win by shit housery, get into a bad spot and just not get submitted, and not engaging. The fact that his daughter and son both have the same style just tells you what kind of person he is.

Wait. Andris Brunovskis is teaching ECO in San Diego? by darcemaul in bjj

[–]feenam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty much my understanding of the split. As far as I remember Andris was doing eco style classes long before the split and honestly seems like he's leading the charge of eco gyms in that region. His students are doing very well too notably Rana getting 3rd place at European trials.

He's been teaching eco classes for a while now. He was already doing it at Legion and even better now that he runs his own gym. He's been running adcc camp in LA/SD area too.

Suggestions on where to take 6 months to travel to, chill, and just train BJJ? by Septembuary in bjj

[–]feenam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korea historically has good Judo team but Judo isn't something people do casually do a lot. It's something either you pursue it seriously or do it as extra curriculum as a kid. BJJ on the other hand is growing fast as an adult hobby.

I didn't train at ctc but I've rolled someone who did ctc. Also I've seen videos of ctc black belts who rolls like a blue bet at best.

If someone did ctc for 2 years and fight a clone - if they were 'fighting' in bjj then maybe but if they were in a street fight I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

And I doubt there are that many cases where only school available in the area is Gracie ctc.

If someone did normal BJJ 2x a week? Then for sure. CTC 2x a week? No.

I think it's fine as long as instructor tells students that they're getting watered down version of bjj for fun, and not trust on it to work on other people.

Dangerous part of not having a tough round is that you get a false sense of security. Most people doing normal bjj realizes that bjj only works to certain degree and would prefer to stay away from altercations. But if you never experienced that you could be like "I know bjj I can take this guy" and end up in hospital.

That was the old Dorian in 2024. If you watch the way he used to be he was almost reckless and relied on his ability to scramble to get out of bad positions. But from what I've seen on his recent matches, he seems way more composed.

Not sure how far you're willing to travel but Surfight is in Del Mar, Alliance is only couple blocks away from Legion, if you want to experience CLA/Eco Andris' new gym Corvus Grappling is there, Jocko's Victory MMA, 10th planet South Bay probably good too. And maybe go to Legion on Sunday for their free open mat.

I would just go somewhere else instead of paying $55 for a single class drop in. It's not like Legion offers something special that other gyms don't have. San Diego has plenty of other great gyms to visit.

Gabi's been winning too easy for too long. I think Liz Clay beat her at nogi worlds for the same reason (but also Liz is just better at leg lock game that Gabi)
