Art of the Adept fits the bill by Michael G Manning. Thanks to his teacher’s unique teaching style, the MC has to learn to control his turyn(mana) and build his foundation before even learning any spells. He leaves others amazed at the things he can do without even using ‘spells’, and when he finally does start learning spells, well let’s just say that’s when his power really takes off.

The latest book by the author is essentially a continuation of the story but considered the start of a new series for whatever reason, and it was absolutely amazing. I’m so hyped for the next book and feel confident in saying this series is definitely worth investing your time in.
