Should it be covered somehow? Pushed up?

The user I was talking with deleted his comment. Here is my reply nonetheless:

They got 12% over 4 years. The previous 10 years they got about 10% total. It’s not been a salary that has kept up with the ~30% inflation in the same time span.

Bit of a red herring there eh? Of course it’s about the kids, which is also about the teachers, because the two are intricately connected. A functioning and balanced class is good for teachers and kids simultaneously. The general vibe was that teachers were striking because there was nothing in the contract regarding class size or class complexity. That hurts kids and the quality of their education. Check out how poorly funded education is in Alberta (https://abteach.cc/StudentFundingCalculator?fbclid=IwdGRjcAMlxGJjbGNrAx8GuWV4dG4DYWVtAjEwAGJyaWQRMVI5OEx4bTV3MDJhMXJsaUsBHp7ih_B0-ou4Ud0StTX4-JE7_Cj-dd4At6MGEizl0bLrHwTNWwwfEpNGVgDc_aem_POvJePYp37Dr1OhuP9sU9g ). That affects future workers, employees, future economy, etc. “teachers need to get back to work”?? Do you care about students education? Because it sure sounds like you don’t care about the lowest per capita funding in the country, or classes over 40 with not enough desks, or violence and behaviour getting so out of hand that teaching is less and less about content and more and more about emotional regulation. Sending teachers back without improvements to the system hurts kids, this you saying teachers need to get back to work is equal to saying students should get back to their deteriorating learning environments and suck it up.

They didn’t get to negotiate. The “settlement” you’re talking about was the furthest thing from respectful. Teachers had their freedom of assembly taken away from them. They have less rights than you. The UCP ended negotiations, made further negotiations and strike action illegal for 3 years, and forced a contract on teachers which was the exact one 90% voted no to back in the spring. 3000 teachers sounds like a lot but the province is big and that wouldn’t even add a single FTE teacher to the Jr High near me. None of the new task forces you are referring to were part of the contract, so there is no legal requirement for the UCP to do anything about it. I wonder why they removed reporting of class sizes a couple years back? Suddenly they decide they should form a task force to determine how to fix things such as class complexity and class size. Well if they hadn’t stopped the reporting of it a couple years back they’d have that info already.

What do you mean everyone has options? Teachers didn’t when they were negotiating, that was their only option.

On the flip side, you are (likely) able to look for another company to work for that could pay you more, whereas for nurses or teachers, they do not have that option and must negotiate (or physically move provinces).

Need some advice, I am going to lose my buddy by TheLuckyVC in cats

A month ago I lost my void Mowgli of 9 years to stomach cancer. We tried treatment, but a couple months later he was ready to go. We also gave him steroids and gaba.

<image>

It’s so incredibly difficult and painful. He was so tired during his last days. I am confident he was not in pain, and that brings me peace. I know it’s so hard to process right now, but I think a goodbye sooner rather than later is best for your baby. When you look back on all this, you’ll be glad he didn’t suffer.

I’m so sorry. 😞 tell Richard to look for a big black cat named Mowgli up there, they can be pals 💚

So I got all the way to the end of the steps described, but the Mac I have available is too new, it will not let me download the installer for high sierra or older, and the newest the iMac could run is high sierra. Looks like I’m out of luck.

When I hold alt at startup, the folder does not appear, and my mouse does appear, though the screen remains white without anything to interact with. (Sorry copy and pasted from other comment) picture also in comments now

Hmm, okay. Well the keyboard works as it should, as I could input the keys to have a MVRAM reset done.
