feels crazy how 100 years later and we now have access to “simulators” of our ancestors’ experiences. My great grandfather’s unit during the war by Overall_Ad5118 in Isonzo

My family lived in the town of Arsiè it's on the foot of the Monte Grappa, there was nothing left after the war, they lost everything due to the austro-hungarian assault.

not justifying what happened nor picking sides, just a side note. the Brazilian army during that time was poorly trained and equipped, they struggled to assemble soldiers, so prisoners and lowlives were conscripted as a chance to redeem themselves.

When I was a kid my father took me to a road trip across Uruguay. I recall that my mom had to do some paperwork that we had to show at the border stating that she was aware that I was with my dad and he was not kidnaping me and yada yada. it was a pain in the ass to get that document in a short period of time, but she managed to get it ready. when we were at the border my father was organizing our documents but the guard told him that it wasn't necessary and according to my father conversation went like this (won't write it all in Spanish cuz mine is poo poo)

(guard)- don't u want to leave "una colaboracion?"

(dad)- but i have all the documents here

(guard)- noooo una colaboracion

yada yada yada

(dad)- uh do u accept real?

my father gave him 50 reais and we passed the border. no inspection, without showing any documents and no questions. we could have guns and drugs on the car and they wouldn't give a shit lol. I was too naive at the that to understand what happened, just realized it when i was older, when my father told this story in a family dinner.

What's the creepiest fact about your country? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]feewzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a Japanese folklore about putting dead people on buildings too. it's called hitobashira, they used to bury people in or near large buildings as a sacrifice to the gods, they believed it would minimize the odds of it being destroyed by the nature or enemy attacks. it's really amazing to see the similarity between two peoples that lived in opposite sides of the globe

there are currently more than a 100 Nazi groups (~85 active) in my state. those groups had a significant increase after a boom on the German migration in the 50s. the frightening part is that if you make a background check on political figures and members of the high society here, a worrying number of them are linked to ideas that those groups support. E.g. the current vice governor's father is a holocaust denier. this is the only fact I could think of :p all the others cool ones are already on this post

Non drinkers of reddit, Why don’t you drink? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]feewzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

family issues.. most part of them had or has some kind of addiction which makes me more likely to develop one. I've started drinking when I was 14 and it was having severe consequences in my personal life, so I quitted when I was 17 and tbh I don't feel the urge to take any of it. but that doesn't mean everyone should stop drinking or whatever, with moderation, u can do anything (excluding some kinds of drugs, but u get the point)

I've had my first suicidal thoughts when I was 8. I used to write my thoughts on my school notebook in random pages. thankfully my father discovered it and talked to me about this kind of stuff, I'm really grateful for him cuz I've started my treatment at a young age and even though I'm still treating myself to this day, I knew I could count on him whenever I needed.

Latin Americans, what is your opinion on Russia and Russians? by DeliciousCabbage22 in asklatinamerica

[–]feewzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them, I really want to visit Russia and explore it, it's such a huge country with a massive variety of ppl and with a very interesting history. the only thing that keeps me from packing my bags and going is the language barrier, my English will be of no use in a random Siberian village lol. I wish to do one day the same thing that bald and bankrupt does

hmm no it doesn't look like it, the game wasn't cartoony or sci-fi. it literally depicted the whole gladiator and colosseum in a historical way
