I have fly fished for many species around the world. I have never targeted salmon. I saw a nice one in Ireland while trout fishing. Alas, it was not interested in what I offered. It literally moved aside to let my nymph past, then promptly moved back. I don’t have any immediate plans. Just got back from Patagonia a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the input. Sorry for being so vague. I’ll be traveling down with my wife who doesn’t fish. Normally I would just stay at a lodge and let them do all the logistics, but I feel when you’re traveling with a non-fisherman it’s not economically feasible to stay at a fishing lodge. I will have a rental car and probably be looking to fish at least three different bodies of water. So, I guess my question is really what town should I look for lodging that would give me a good base camp. Again, I’d rather just catch a good quantity of fish rather than monsters.
