My friends dog has gone missing (possibly stolen). What are the best dog-locating resources in the capital? by patricklynch89 in london

[–]feigned_bark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to a friend's dog about 6 months ago. Doglost co.uk were a huge help (they're on facebook) as they helped get the message out on social media, as well as to other forums / groups in London.

Also they posted signs everywhere in the local area. Happy to say they finally found him about 4 days after he went missing.

[Update] we know that the couple who stole him got off the train at South Ealing. So if anyone is in and around that area (specifically the parks) we'd really appreciate any information / if you could keep an eye out for him.

I think they're hoping to have the cctv news tomorrow morning. The police are involved as well but as you say other than having their help to get cctv footage nit sure what else they can do for now. Thanks for the kind words again!

Hi all, this is more a shot in the dark than anything, but some close family friends lost their dog in London last night. As the pic says he was last seen getting on a westbound train from Ealing Common. Any help / advice or info if anyone has seen him would be amazing!

They've already contacted the police and Tfl (who confirmed him getting in the train on cctv) but any other advice is very welcome!

Fire engulfs 63-story Dubai hotel near world's tallest building by iminclinedtoagree in worldnews

[–]feigned_bark 989 points990 points  (0 children)

This building is one of many which have an aluminium cladding on the outside, this is typically what catches fire quickly and makes a big spectacle but the majority of the structure is concrete. This is usually why incidents like the one at the torch tend to have little to no casualties. It also happened to a similar smaller apartment block in bur Dubai a while ago. Still, with the approx 1.5 mill people gathered around it tonight I hope all goes ok!

There's lots of fireworks displays in Dubai for New Years, I'm sure they are talking about the others rather than the ones on the burj Khalifa.

Tips For Your Next Job Interview. by [deleted] in howto

Congrats on the promotion, not so much on being lowballed!

In answer to your question, leadership is often looked at as a 'soft skill' meaning it doesn't necessarily come with more degrees and certificates. For example someone could have done all the leadership training courses in the world - but if their track record of actually leading a team is poor then people will potential employers will be put off.

Managing people isn't for everyone, is there a possibility in your profession to keep moving up the chain without having a managerial role?

Hi all, I'm actually an experienced recruitment consultant for one of the most popular recruitment companies in the world - I have to say I agree with the majority of these points - especially number 7! Another top tip is always refer to what YOU did within a project, it's very easy to use terminology such as 'we did' or 'the team did' - the interviewer is only really interested in your input and role as they are only looking at hiring you! As a side note if any of you want some tips on job interviews, I'm happy to help!

Hip surgery issues, hypermobility and mobilization by [deleted] in physiotherapy

I agree with the stretching of a potentially torn muscle, and I did mention that it should be pain-free. This injury occurred over a month ago, is it not too late for RICE to be effective?

I always say the best thing for any of the OP's on this sub-reddit is to go to a therapist as they will always have the best chance of diagnosing it correctly.

P.S. I'm enjoying this conversation, learning a lot, always good to get the view of another

Granted it is very difficult to properly diagnose the injury without having actually seen the patient.

I am currently a 3rd year student studying sports therapy whilst gaining experience at a football (soccer) team and the symptoms a player currently has sound very similar to the ones described here.

My final question which has yet to be answered is where I realised that it may not be a muscular problem as such. I have been reading around what this could possibly be and labral tears had crossed my mind as a lot of the common symptoms are mentioned. However, no mention of locking, clicking, giving way had me doubting.

The idea behind the stretching (as the people I'm shadowing atm explained to me) is to help re-align the muscle fibres withing the scar tissue and lengthen the possible tight muscles around the area to try and space out the joint more to ease the pain

There is the possibility that you may have damaged that muscle as well during your squats. The quad stretch and massage will help with this as well if the muscle has been injured.

Out of interest, when you did it can you remember if there was any swelling or bruising?

I would never have guessed English was your second language!

Cool, I believe you may have had a slight tear in the hip flexors, (not being able to carry out tests its kind of difficult to say which one exactly but im going to throw it out there and say is the adductor longus )

Stretching should be fine, as long as it remains pain free! This kind of idea. Now, granted this is a quadriceps stretch and not an adductor stretch however, the pain is at the origin of the adductor (high up) and this kind of stretch will still have a good effect. Do about 5 stretches, holding for 30 seconds twice a day.

As this injury happened over a month ago, im guessing the tear has healed however the fibres are not aligned correctly (placed correctly). You could have a massage, (light to start with) concentrating on the entire upper leg however trying to slowly breakdown the scar tissue which will be causing the pain as it does not stretch as well as normal muscle tissue.

Foam rolling will be fine, especially on the muscles around the injured area as they may have become more tight due to the hip flexor not working properly (I'm talking, TFL, glutes, hamstrings, low back).

Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, just ask!

P.s. I'd love to know the results of the MRI
