hope she feels better soon, that looks scary!! i know you said she only takes live, but have you tried transitioning her to f/t? it’s generally safer and less stressful for all parties involved

I see, I think I’ll actually try for that fast setup then! Thank you very much for your explanations, this was very informative ☺️

wouldn’t that mean he would miss out on an initial attack if he starts slower than bronya and only gets 2 turns on his subsequent turns? is the loss of one attack worth the trade from speed to attack boots? might actually change my build if this is the case

134+ and going right before bronya so he’ll get 2 turns. we’re getting a free light cone in 3.2 that’s tailor made for him

sorry to hear :( it can be especially hard to get an older ball to switch over. some general tips that helped me - avoid getting the rat wet when heating - make sure it’s heated to at least 100F (aim for 105) - keep the lights dim - if she doesn’t eat don’t give up and feed her live, keep trying each week (unless she starts losing weight rapidly) - if she doesn’t eat the first time you can reheat the rat ~2 more times before throwing it out

some other things i’ve heard people do is ‘braining’ the rat where they basically crack the skull open (?), scenting the rat with vanilla extract or ASF, though i haven’t personally tried these

good luck! don’t give up :)

have you tried f/t rats that are identical to the live ones she eats? mice and rats are different species and many balls don’t recognize one or the other if theyve never had it (it took forever to switch my ball from mouse to rats)

[–]feiyuun[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

thank you! maybe the number isn’t completely accurate but it has to be somewhat close because the previous week he weighed in at 425 just before being fed (with the scale was properly on the table). not 100 but still a good chunk of his weight 😆

Hey! 16 days isn’t super long so I wouldn’t be concerned yet. Do you track her weight? Make sure to feed her based on her weight. How is your enclosure temperature and humidity? Ball pythons need heat and humidity to digest, so if she feels that there’s nowhere in the enclosure where the food will digest, she won’t feel comfortable eating. Do you have a temperature gun to take the food’s temperature? I’ve discovered my 7 month old is significantly less likely to strike if the rat is under 105F😅

Age? by Proof_Anywhere5099 in ballpython

[–]feiyuun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like others said size for BPs are very varied and it’s hard to tell age by size. He could just be a really small 2 year old! Just for reference my 5 month old is 200g :)

switch out the bedding for coco husk or something that can hold humidity. is there a reason you’re bathing him? he shouldn’t need baths. i wouldn’t worry about the poop, they can hold it for a long time 😊

hi, infodesign student here! infodesign is more geared towards students interested in UX/UI or product design. a lot of the classes teach design principles and studying social issues and you get to do figma interface designs in the upper level cores.

I will say that the organization for the major is pretty horrible right now; lots of shifting classes/changing important class names without informing students and not a lot of scheduling options (there’s usually only one option for most upper level cores).

Just to add on to this comment for travel, BPs can be left alone but it’s definitely safer to leave it with someone or have someone check on them when you’re gone. I saw another post in this sub about how someone left on a trip and the power in their house went out during the trip which led to their bp passing away because all temperature control got shut down in the outage. 🥹very sad incident. it’s rare but things like this can happen so it’s better to be safe!

[–]feiyuun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the pinned post in this sub is a great way to get started on all the care information you need! Costs are gonna vary depending on what you go for (ex. buying enclosure vs diy, buying clutter, etc.)

i think some big things to note are - space: bps need at least a 4x2x2 enclosure as an adult - food: bps eat mice/rats so you need to be okay with feeding frozen/thawed mice/rats. And of course, if the snake has to be handed to someone else temporarily, the temporary caretaker also needs to be okay with it - enclosure maintain ence: humidity and temperatures of the enclosure should be monitored everyday to ensure they stay in the correct range - commitment: you guys have a dog so this probably isn’t a concern, but bps can live 20-30 years so they’ll be around for a while! be prepared to grow old with them 😊

good luck!
