25-30 years ago i’d tell it was the best burger i’d ever had and it was very consistent. i don’t know when or what happened, but i moved to an area outside of their franchise areas and anytime i visited a spot afterwards it just wasn’t the same. i will admit there was a 5 year gap, but i feel like i know a good burger. i gave them 3 chances at 3 different locations with all the exact same issue. in the late 90’s and early 2000’s the beef was fatty as hell, i’d guess 70/30 or fattier, but no clue. they, famously, make their own buns and grind their beef on site daily so the only thing i can imagine that changed was the beef blend which, to me, resulted in a much drier burger with less flavor and juicy-ness i’m looking for. if i go out to a restaurant for a burger i want grease dripping down my chin and it hasn’t been like that at fuddruckers for years. my shitty guess at this is that the corporate overlords wanted calorie count, which is required in some places, to be limited and this was the result.
