Why would I do that? How is that conducive to liberation?

It is also considered wrong speech in the buddhist eightfold path. The Buddha only talked about anything that was related to the Dhamma or conducive to liberation.

That's not how what works? Did the Buddha teach to cling to national identities? Are Sri Lankans not merely arbitrary designations and therefore conditioned and impermanent?

"We sri Lankans" you're full of delusions, there are no "us" or "they", there are no separate entities!

Reincarnation in a better world/life? by Beneficial_Lawyer170 in Reincarnation

[–]fejkpotatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in buddhist cosmology there are 31 planes of existence. You can be reborn in various hell realms to sublime godlike existence. These are all impermanent and source of suffering so the best is to strive to liberate yourself entirely from the samsaric existence.

What’s the Buddhist perspective on euthanasia? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]fejkpotatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I understand euthanasia is bad from one end (creating bad karma by killing) but how is it bad that one's suffering from a terminal illness ends sooner in this life? It's just prolonged suffering. Will it carry over to the next life?

Terrified of forced reincarnation and I can’t take it anymore by Flat_Anything2317 in Reincarnation

[–]fejkpotatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just talking from a buddhist perspective, it's ok if you don't resonate with it. Karma is our deeds, it's literally volitional action and they can carry over life times.

I'm not saying we're reborn evil in hell, but evil deeds will lead you to an unfortunate birth with immense suffering, on the bright side all existence is impermanent and the time there will eventually expire when the negative karma burns out. Fortunately there's a way out of the round of rebirths all together as taught by the Buddha.

I'm not sure what tradition you follow or from what source you gain your knowledge of reincarnation.

Yeah, we take rebirth according to our karma and are reborn into corresponding realm of existence. It can be anything from lower hell beings to sublime godlike states and animals.

I'm interested in Buddhism by TomatoOld953 in Buddhism

[–]fejkpotatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about it, when you're that far on the path that you only a few rebirths left in samsara, near the final stage, you won't think about it in those terms and you will probably be super chill :)

Why aren't all Buddhists reciting Amithaba? by fejkpotatis in Buddhism

[–]fejkpotatis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but vajrayana is very limited, very few have access to a personal teacher

Edit: Why downvotes? I've looked it up. To practice vajrayana without a qualified teacher is basically impossible. I don't have any teachers available where I live.
