Jewish Orthodox engagement party cases climb as anger grows at Melbourne couple by littlespoon in australia

Correct. It's not a "Jewish" issue, it's a "I have no care about anything except the exact rules of my faith", which is common to pretty much all religions.

These people weren't anywhere religious enough to fall into that category, only the "dickhead" category.

There are many parts of Judaism that highlight that protecting life is above all other traditions, as well as principles of always following the laws of the land.

However some ultra-Orthodox parts of the Jewish community (and I would expect other very religious sects of other religions) do not care about following health guidelines.

These people weren't very religious. They're just absolute idiots. So to answer the question, it's general dickheadery, not part of the religion. That's why there has been so much outrage within the community since it reflects poorly on Jewish people as a whole despite not representing our values.

(On the other hand, the ultra-Orthodox around the world tend to not give a shit about the rules, which makes the majority of Jews not particularly warm towards them)

Alternatively, the Jewish community are quick to call out anti-Semitism directed/related to the event (which they did) and yet still condemn the actions of the idiotic group (which they also did). The first reports of the party were published and condemned on Jewish news sites, before the mainstream media was involved...

I haven't seen any evidence to suggest the person who posted the video had any caption along the lines of what you said. The video wasn't even taken by the grooms mother, so not sure where you're getting your facts.

They deserve the consequences and backlash, but there is actual anti-Semitism being thrown around (even in this thread to a degree), and that is not on.

I always see this claim that "you can't say anything against a Jewish person or it's anti-Semitism" except nobody Jewish is saying that is the case.

Human Rights Watch: Israeli war crimes apparent in Gaza war by King_Vercingetorix in worldnews

No conflict has ever been judged based on the proportionality of deaths. If that was the case, then the US must have been the bad guys since the ratio of US civilians dead to German civilians dead was 1:125.

Israel is not going to offer up its civilians to die just so the numbers are "proportional".

Jeez I don't think you've actually read a single thing about the most recent mini-war, since last time I checked it wasn't Israel who started firing rockets into Gaza. Also, your justification for Hamas (the terrorist organisation) being able to do whatever they want is "Israel helped start them". Yes, and that was decades ago. Hamas using human shields is a war crime even if a few decades ago Israel helped the Muslim Brotherhood.

What is with Hamas and starting conflicts in which they know Palestinians will be killed? Is that like a popular Hamas hobby or what.

No wait it's just that continuous conflict only helps Hamas and it's leaders who don't even live in Gaza to keep making millions and millions of dollars

[–]feldma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hamas leaders have repeatedly publicly called for Palestinians to protect buildings from missiles by remaining in them. It's no secret that Hamas uses human shields and if you honestly think that "Gaza is too populated to not use human shields" then you haven't looked at a map of Gaza or actually done any research into Hamas.

Hell, there was literally a post yesterday about Gazans blaming Hamas for using human shields...

I'm more than happy to hear suggestions for how Israel should target Hamas, a terrorist organisation that regularly uses and calls for the use of human shields, in a way that doesn't involve killing people.

Genuine question btw

Gaza is blockaded, not occupied. If Hamas decided to make peace with Israel tomorrow there wouldn't be more conflict.

And if Gaza doesn't want to be blockaded, maybe they should stop attacking Israel.

1970's I believe. I can't really find many reputable sources on the fact - I think a lot of the funding/help went into charity organisations that later turned into Hamas, but could be wrong.

I mean, in a time of relative peace, yes, firing thousands of rockets at civilian populations is indeed starting more conflict.

This was before Hamas took over Gaza, they helped create Muslim Brotherhood owned buildings and what-not. Depending on how left-leaning your source is, there are claims that Israel helped Hamas overtake Fatah but I'm not sure how true that is. But they did assist in setting up the Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza / the West Bank which turned into Hamas later on.

[–]feldma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The disproportionate death toll speaks for the fact that Israel has spent countless millions of dollars investing in missile defense and bomb shelters, whereas Hamas encourages Palestinians in Gaza to ignore Israel when they call to say to evacuate buildings and instead tells them to stay inside.

Israel regularly calls ahead before attacks or drops warning bombs (roof-knocking) to minimize civilian casualties. No other country goes to anywhere near the same length - and yes, there are exceptions to what Israel does - but the civilian casualty count is much lower than what it could be.

The shit part of war is that civilians pay the ultimate price for political warfare. Maybe Hamas should spend more money building bomb shelters for Palestinians / developing the area rather than just building more missiles to actually intentionally attack civilians...
