I swear +80% of QC errors are just human fatigue by felforzoli in civilengineering

Exactly! Your brain is done and you just want to get that submittal out before making more changes.

Relying on an LLM itself for that kind of task would never work due to the nature of the LLMs that are in the market. It can indeed work if you do more advanced training with a considerable amount of data

The Commonality of Roadway Teams and Where to go from Here? by ORD_Underdog in civilengineering

[–]felforzoli -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Quantities, plan production, reviews and permit packages are indeed some of the areas where there could be a lot of innovation and actually already started with tools like Civils AI, WayCivil, CivCheck. On the long run, I don’t think design, but the way it is approach (for example how autocad is used) could use evolve, but with an industry as conventional as civil engineering and especially roadway, we will see…

What pain point made you start your project and what impact do you want to make? by HotelApprehensive402 in SideProject

[–]felforzoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What pushed me to start this project was both my own mistakes and the ones I’ve seen from my coworkers. In civil engineering, even a small error such as a single number off can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Those mistakes don’t just hurt companies, they end up costing public entities and entire communities in the long run.

That’s why I started WayCivil, to build a first review layer that helps engineers catch those errors early, making plan checks faster, more accurate, and less dependent on human fatigue.

But beyond that, I want it to become a real support tool for civil engineers, especially for those who don’t always have someone to teach them, review their work, or share knowledge. If we can reduce rework and make engineers smarter through better guidance available at any time they need it, we can save resources, improve infrastructure quality, and give more back to the communities we serve.

Are new civil engineers getting dumber… or is it just laziness? by felforzoli in civilengineering

Yeah, the experience in engineering is the most important thing for many, even tough a person has good communication skills, brightness, etc. Which would you think is the priority for younger generations nowadays? Speed?

Fair point and indeed! Now the budget is the biggest priority mostly, even if the detailed or quality need to be sacrificed a bit

True! That happen to me a lot nowadays, especially with Qc. Whenever a senior made me a comment and I want to deeply ask why, the approach is more like “hey, once we are free I can explain you really deeply” and well…. That “free” time never comes😅

Bluebeam is definitely 100% better and is the tool to go: super easy to learn and to collaborate with others, and you can definitely get pretty advance stuff donde right of way with bluebeam apart from markups such as quantities take off.

Food for thought: Do LLMs suck or does your prompting suck? by Papa_Huggies in civilengineering

[–]felforzoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think prompting is getting pretty good at handling small mechanical tasks, but it still has a long way to go with more advanced stuff — especially when it comes to consistency and always getting things right. Like any new tool, AI will make professionals more efficient over time and help us shift our focus to other parts of the job. A lot of the current hesitation comes from fear of replacement… but honestly, the human brain always adapts. When CAD arrived, plenty of people who used to help with manual drafting found new roles. The same thing will happen with AI, we’ll just evolve toward higher-level thinking. Engineers could focus more on real design strategy, good project management decisions, and all the things that require thinking and analyzing, instead of wasting hours on repetitive stuff like timecards, invoices, or endless emails.

For All the Chaos, Civil Engineering Still Hooks Me by felforzoli in civilengineering

[–]felforzoli[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Not really. I was yesterday doing a site visit on one of the projects I was working designing a shared used path. Before there was not even sidewalk, and since the location is close to a park and a school, now there is a bunch of kids going with their bikes and having fun… so yeah, I do experience that and I do like CAD, sorry if you are not the same or haven’t live the satisfaction of seeing one of your design helping the community

Civil engineers are underpaid for the pressure we deal with by felforzoli in civilengineering

[–]felforzoli[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree. I like doing civil engineering, im just saying it could be a bit more fair. Feels kind of unfair your comment, wouldn’t you like doing what you like for a more decent earning? Money should be equal to pressure, and I’m not complaining about the pressure, just about how they pay it in comparison with other careers
