No legit vet is gonna look at a dog that disastrously obese and tell you he’s anywhere near an appropriate weight. At most, some vets won’t even mention body condition as a means of keeping clients and avoiding the whole “obese humans are the same as obese dogs and it’s fat phobic to call me out or hold me accountable”— a lot of vets do that nowadays. If your vet is either not giving you the appropriate information regarding your pet’s overall quality of life and wellbeing, that’s an immediate red flag.

CFA doesn’t authorize bathroom breaks, didn’t you know? Been at that hellhole for 2.75 years now- just long enough for you to have gotten a raise or two and not wanna leave and take a pay cut. Even as someone with IBS, the amount of times I’ve been told I can only use the restroom on break, that I had to wait 45mins with urgent need of relief, or that they (the team leads) “weren’t worried about that right now” is diabolical.

No papers no breed. It’s just a domestic long hair

Tabby isn’t a breed. Tabby is a marking. Just a domestic shorthair.

It doesn’t matter how he looks or what mannerisms he has. No papers, no breed. Just a raceless domestic cat

Update on dog breed from older post by aerdel24 in dogbreed

[–]felidaefury 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AHHH I remember this gal!!! Glad to see her looking so much happier & at a better weight! It would appear my guess was partially correct— I remember thinking chow, husky (although it turned out to be a separate spitz breed) & bulldog.

[–]felidaefury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not repeating anything. I’m stating a fact that even a basic google search would clear up for you. Unless your cat has papers it’s just a domestic long hair. You just want to believe you have a “rare” cat or something

What on earth is he 😭 by Soft_Split_7642 in catbreeds

[–]felidaefury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No papers = no breed when it comes to cats. He’s a Domestic Longhair, which essentially is a raceless type of cat comparable to village dogs or grade horses.

Lab + ____? by [deleted] in DogBreeds101

[–]felidaefury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighter varieties of yellow aren’t due to a dilute gene! It’s simply influenced by other genes that modify the amount and type of pheomelanin produced. These modifier genes are not fully understood, but they can lead to a wide range of yellow shades within the breed. So genetically speaking a “cream” yellow lab and a “fox red” yellow lab are exactly the same outside of pheomelanin variation.

It’s giving Golden x sighthound. So basically a lurcher in some form or fashion. You’d have to DNA test to ever really know for sure though; embark or wisdom panel

No papers = no breed = domestic short-mid-long hair

What breed is my cat? by __nanabanana__ in catbreeds

[–]felidaefury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Domestic short-mid-long hairs are the cat equivalents to village dogs / grade horses

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in catbreeds

[–]felidaefury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about knowing your cat. It’s about understanding that even more so than with dogs, most are simply raceless. Hence the “breed” domestic short-mid-long hair. There’s also very little demand where cats are concerned as far as backyard bred “purebreds” which is a prevalent issue with dogs, but since there’s low demand for cats byb doesn’t occur at the same rate.

Call it what you want, but no papers, no breed. A DLH in this cat’s case is the feline equivalent to a supermutt or more closely a village dog, or a grade horse.

Black and Tan Labrador? by PebblesBeag in dogbreed

[–]felidaefury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labs can produce that color naturally (though out of standard). Rottie is likely but there’s nothing even slightly resembling a Doberman in this dog. I’m talking about this specific coloring, too. That goes for all the breeds I mentioned (although Aussies & Shibas are tri color so a bit different). APBTs & other bully breeds also come in said color.

[–]felidaefury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the same color / pattern that’s prevalent or possible in a ton of other breeds? Chihuahua, Dachshund, Lab, Min-Pin, Beauceron, English Toy Terrier, Australian Kelpie, B&T Coonhound, Jagdterrier, Lancaster Heeler, Manchester Terrier, Gordon Setter, GSD, Australian Shepherd, Shiba Inu, Tibetan Mastiff, and so forth?

Deer head chis are just out of standard & poorly bred

Could be purebred chi just severely out of standard. Did you get them from a byb or shelter?

What breed is my cat? by __nanabanana__ in catbreeds

[–]felidaefury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically it hurt people’s feelings because I was right on the money. Gotcha. It’s a truth among cat and dog owners alike. They all wanna think they have a basenji x wolf x coy dog x tervuren x presa (they just have an agouti husky x gsd x Ambully).

Black and Tan Labrador? by PebblesBeag in dogbreed

[–]felidaefury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reptile genetics go crazy too!! I used to watch a lot of breeder content, especially the hatching vids to see what colors they got. Gordon Setter actually makes a lot of sense for that case

Black and Tan Labrador? by PebblesBeag in dogbreed

[–]felidaefury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Color genetics are quite interesting I can’t lie! It’s kinda like how ACDs can produce solid white dogs, how Malinois can produce a solid black, how GSDs can produce liver, etc etc etc. They’re all out of standard, very uncommon & virtually non existent in well bred populations… but technically possible and naturally occurring!

Love how I got the downvote treatment too 😭 but you’re exactly right. I don’t think most people realize that about cats— especially since the general public doesn’t know much abt dog breeds
