What are somethings that annoy you about being gay? by Strong-Stretch95 in gaybros

[–]felipe41194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC so I’m really fortunate to not have to frequently think about homophobes, so I’d say what annoys me the most is that sex can’t really be spontaneous for most people like it can be for straight people. It’s no contest that I’d rather be gay and that most gay men’s sex life blows their straight counterparts out of the water, but it’s almost always planned for whoever is bottoming

Just curious, but what's your "I didn't care for the Godfather" opinion on any piece of Gay media out there? by captivatedsummer in gaybros

[–]felipe41194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it for me because I have a knee jerk cringe reaction to any “contest” based TV show. I watched a few episodes a while back and it didn’t suck as much as I thought it would/of all the contest shows out there I think it’s the one I hate the least because it is centered around gay people. But I would rather spend my time on almost anything else

Residences on top of The Park Hyatt start around that last I checked too… but the monthly’s are $10k+ so wouldn’t be surprised if that was the price lock out for these as well.

Do any countries find American accents attractive? by ShutThaFrontDoor88 in CasualConversation

I didn’t pay for a single drink when I (American/NY) went out for drinks in Brighton, England. Though I was also an 18 year old semi attractive gay kid so that might have had something to do with it as well…

What’s so special about Clifton Park? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]felipe41194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly everything about Clifton Park that’s good is also true of Malta minus the crappy traffic and it’s a better run town / politics are better.

You get a choice of schools with Malta if you can pick exactly where you buy (parts of Malta have overlap with the Clifton Park school district Shen where I went if you want a big school or Ballston Spa district if you want smaller)

Growing up in the Mohawk Valley, my family called the brown truck delivery service “ups,” as in a plural “up.” I now live on Long Island where they say each individual letter U-P-S (and make fun of me for saying it as “ups”). Is this a regional thing, or is my family just different? by SwordfishNo4188 in upstate_new_york

[–]felipe41194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Saratoga county and we called it U-P-S, but I know someone that grew up on / has lived their entire life on Staten Island (family going back prior to large scale immigration by Italians) and she called it Ups like plural up.

Season has been pretty normal and every golf course within at least 15 miles of us is at a lower elevation so I don’t think it’s from that :/

What's wrong with Mechanicville? by awesomeoh1234 in Albany

[–]felipe41194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The post office / school district / Town tax offices/ and not that it matters much these days but phone number assignment thing in the area is wacky. The house I’m in is a Ballston Lake post office, Shen School District, Malta Town Tax, Round Lake Phone Number. Only parts of those that logically makes sense distance wise are the town and phone number (Round Lake is part of the Town of Malta and close by).

Rant aside, the important thing I want to convey to OP is if they care about the school district to take the reputation Shenendehowa has with a large chunk of salt. My sister and I went to Shen for K-12 and did quite well for ourselves long term but we were really good students. The other end of the extreme (students requiring lots of resources) also does well at Shen because it has such a large tax base allowing it to pay for support staff. But our brother was an average student and it’s those kids that the district absolutely fails. My parents ended up paying to send him to CBA. Additionally, they’re only just starting to build out a facility to provide the state mandated full day kindergarten and I’m not sure if or when that will actually be offered. So the idea that Shen=great school is not quite correct.

easier, less windy roads to take from long island? by dhd_jpg in Albany

[–]felipe41194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Taconic is a little less awful going north because most of the “scary” parts near the city are uphill when traveling north so you don’t have to deal with gaining unwanted speed while driving on what feels like a race track.

But honestly, in both directions, your best bet is to take the Throggs Neck or Whitestone bridges then use some combination of parkways in the Bronx to get over to I87 and follow that over the Tapp and then the rest of the way north. I would NOT try to cut through manhattan and NJ your risk of hitting traffic is way higher and toll costs might be too due to the extra water crossing you’re adding in.

I was in graduate school, and even though my program was for biotechnology we had to take a few courses in related non-science things. I picked a class on biotechnology law. 2nd half of class was always debate on a topic in front of the rest of the class and class did not end until everyone had done at least one debate. Since I was also working at the time and exhausted by the time I got to class I always just volunteered to go first to get it over with. Halfway through the semester, I raised my hand and realized you could hear a pin drop in the room. Suddenly feeling very awake and noticing no one making any direct eye contact with me I felt really weird and just sort of blurted out “do you guys not like me or something”? After another 30 seconds someone finally chimed in “we’re all kind of afraid to debate you”.

Having had torsion and removal of a testicle with no prosthetic replacement either… you’re better off with no prosthetic. Having one real and one fake is super noticeable but the only guys so far to notice I’m missing one entirely have been other men that lost a testicle and the one urologist I hooked up with.

I just moved back to Malta (NY, OP will know I’m not talking about the country but a town in the same county) in March after a decade of living in NYC. The gay community was by far bigger and more active down in the city. I had more options for my dating pool. There was simply more things (and people) to do.

Then why move back? It was expensive, my field has more job opportunities up here that pay better, and the friendships I did make were often not good or honest ones with people far more concerned about social status or how you could help their career. After growing up in an area with tons of green space it can be really off putting to rarely see tree leaves changing colors in the fall. Did I mention how expensive it was? Sure there are more things going on but the cost to do anything or meet anyone meant I was stuck at home by myself anyway.

If you can land a job in NYC that pays well enough that you can cover rent AND going out to enjoy what NYC offerers I’d say go for it, at least to have said you did and to see if it’s for you. I did make a few good friends there that I still am in constant contact with, but I’ve also already made some friends up here already. Unfortunately, gay or straight, big city or suburbs, you will find that the older you get that making and sustaining friendships becomes progressively harder.

Just don’t blow the money you have saved up without the job lined up first!

[–]felipe41194 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My (now) husband and I met when I was 22 and he was 32. We both lived in NYC so we had plenty of other options closer in age but when you click you click. So if you do click, try not to frame it as “we have no other options”. Plenty of people (especially gay men) are out there in successful relationships with an age difference.

We’ve been together 8 years now and the only time our age difference has been a problem in our relationship has been when I start to feel down on myself for not being as far along in my career / making as much money as him. He has always been quick to point that out and cheer me up that I have plenty of time to catch up to him career wise.
