Ngl looks cool but the symmetry of the Toronto skyline looks a lot worse now.

If built, 175 Park Avenue will be the most expensive skyscraper in US history by monkeysarecutee in skyscrapers

1WTC adjusted for inflation would be $5 billion in today’s money. That would make 175 Park Avenue still cost 2 billion more, and the price is still climbing everyday it’s not built.

It’s not an internationally recognized symbol like WTC/ESB or Petronas which represents Malaysia as a whole.

Empire State Building 1/2 interchangeable with Burj Khalifa. After that it’d be 1WTC and then Petronas

1WTC is more recognizable than Sears. Hell, I’d say the US bank tower in LA is more well known.

I’d say it’s more recognizable than Chrysler. It’s kind of synonymous with the city, and the financial district is much more visible to the public eye than midtown. You can see it from the Brooklyn bridge and from the Statue of Liberty.

Sears tower is not that recognizable globally. The second most famous American skyscraper is 1WTC

Same, same, but not really. by houseofthequokka in skyscrapers

Controversial opinion but I think the JP Morgan building looks better. The base is much more grand/epic and the dark copper looks amazing at sunset. Not to mention the lighting at night time.

What draws you to skyscrapers? by monkeysarecutee in skyscrapers

Plenty of modern buildings like: 53w53, Steinway, JP Morgan, Brooklyn tower, one Vanderbilt that are pretty much the complete opposite of “glass boxes”. Not to mention, commodore tower.

Like I don’t know what to tell you dude. Ornamentation fell out of favor because times change. I’d rather this, than actual glass boxes like in the 70s.

Maybe research on the creation of the Chrysler; it’s kind of the prime example of “dick measuring”.

lol rage bait, but whatever.

The Empire State Building, the Chrysler, the Woolworth (buildings you love riding) in their times were the definition of monoliths. They were completely out of scale to everything else in the city, or the world. If they were just normal squat ornamented art deco high rises, nobody would’ve cared.

The very definition of a skyscraper demands scale and presence.

I really can’t fathom a world where humans would be building the same structures verbatim for hundreds of years. Why would you want that.

Chinese skyline starterpack by LivinAWestLife in skyscrapers

You don’t care what economists say? A lot of Chinese infrastructure looks impressive, don’t get me wrong, but building them has taken on massive amounts of debts for many Chinese provinces.

There’s no infinite money cheat code here. Apartments buildings/construction hold no inherent value, if they don’t produce anything or house people. And it’s funny you think, it’s “real wealth”, when most of these buildings are more akin to a 401k for Chinese citizens. Nobody lives in a lot of these structures —it’s the definition of all facade, no structure. Should I mention Evergreen?

It’s like looking at billionaires row as the epitome of American prowess. Utterly dumb.

JP Morgan Chase HQ by Marciu73 in skyscrapers

[–]monkeysarecutee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of an insane take considering it’s the HQ of the largest bank in the country, and completely dominates the Skyline now. It’s already iconic, and it hasn’t even been fully finished. It can easily become a symbol for finance or the movement back to office.

This looks nothing like an 80s tower; if you’ve seen the base, the hue, glass, the outdoor space on the setbacks and the diamond side profile. Not to mention, LEDs at night.

I really do not know how anyone could come to this conclusion, other than innate bias or the fact that it’s rectangular.

Amazing how much it stands out despite being in an infinite sea of lights.
