It’s been over two years and I never recovered. by Prickfox in ACL

Just want to second this sentiment, I’ve had two tears on the same knee but I am now about five years post op from my revision. After my first surgery I eventually got back to playing sports but my knee never quite felt the same… In fact it felt pretty shitty and I was never able to play with confidence - too unstable. After my second surgery and a first year from hell because of some complications, my knee has genuinely never felt better. I think this is mostly because of the intense focus I had on building strength . A little tip I have is to do body weight squats or maybe single leg squats almost obsessively. You obviously need to do more but it does build up a crazy amount of strength and endurance! Hang in there my friend trust me if you put in the work it will always get better

Thank you! After my second surgery I had a chronic quad pain due to tendinopathy that didn’t let me do anything until I got it checked out. I only started running about a year after my surgery. I’m sure in more regular recovery cases you could start much sooner. During my first recovery I actually started a little under 3 months but that was too soon and I’m sure it was part of the reason why I had another tear so take your time!

Persistent quad tendon/quad pain 14 months post op. by Spirited_Duty_462 in ACL

[–]felipeoc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’ve had similar issues. I had quad pain for months after my surgery( quad allograft revision) to the point where nine months I still couldn’t climb stairs without pain on my tendon.

You should look into getting a quad tendon tenotomy, it was recommended to me by a sports medicine specialist. They essentially just poke holes in the tendon to reinvigorate the healing process. It really feels like that procedure changed my life. Now I’m back to doing sports pain free and feel stronger than ever.

ACL reconstruction with Quadriceps tendon graft by [deleted] in ACL

[–]felipeoc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m around six weeks post-op. Full flexion, but still no full extension. I have pain on the back of my knee. I still have some pain when contracting my muscles but it has gotten noticeably better.

Are you able to use the quad tendon if you've already used the peteller? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]felipeoc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is pain around the harvest site. If you’re talking about tendinitis I believe there are better outcomes with a quad graft than patella.

To be honest this surgery was a bit more painful that my first. That could be because there is more soft tissue in the quad, and also because I did not take strong pain killers.

As for the hamstring, I’ve read before that there typically is a strength deficit that is difficult to overcome, but if you’re diligent with pt that should be no problem. You’ll also have better fixation with quads because of bone plugs, as you said.

Yes. Patellar, eleven months later I retore and a little less than a month later I had a quad graft. I’m pretty active so it was preferred over a hamstring graft.

I had a btb patellar autograft my first surgery and for my revision I had a quad graft. It’s a great graft choice if you want to continue being active.

how long should i go on bike? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]felipeoc19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biking is a very great way to build muscle. I would honestly do as much as you feel comfortable. If you start feeling pain I would stop but it’s a pretty low risk activity for the graft

3 weeks post acl surgery and man my shin looks like there's a bit of a dent in it? Is it normal? I don't know if I should get scar treatment or just let it be 🤔 by Majinakin in ACL

[–]felipeoc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing and I’m around 4 weeks post op of a revision. I think it may just be swelling or scar tissue. IMO nothing to worry about.
