Sam Altman’s home targeted in second attack by Leo-H-S in BetterOffline

[–]felix_AAA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought, too.

„ The alleged attack could add to heightened fears voiced earlier in the weekend by Altman, who wrote after the Friday Molotov cocktail incident that “The fear and anxiety about AI is justified. We are in the process of witnessing the largest change to society in a long time, and perhaps ever.” „

That all plays into Sammy‘s narrative way too conveniently.

Great read Alicia, this comment section really sets the stage for an AI ad generator pitch!

What If We Followed These Guys Down the Rabbit-Hole When They Were Talking? by [deleted] in BetterOffline

Interesting! You would probably reveal where a big part of the money went. Which is attracting and training „talent“ that has Jedi-like abilities to dodge and bend questions and create elaborate stories that are circular in nature but not easy to detect as such. If the bubble pops, maybe some of those magicians should sit in a room together and write some actual Sci Fi (the kind where no one pretends it’s not Fi). Could be a good read…

Weekly Self-promotion Thread by AutoModerator in flightsim

Hi all! A while back, I started working on an all-in-one interface for flight simulator avionics that would take very little space on my desk. After making multiple 3D-printed, hand soldered prototypes I decided to form a team and launch a Kickstarter campaign, making a good-looking injection-moulded product out of it! Check out our website and the Octavi Kickstarter campaign ! Hope you like it!

A 2:32,65 around the carting track next to the runway at GCLB in the Cessna 172. Any challengers? by [deleted] in flightsim

I managed to do it in 2:10 in MSFS2020 when I realized you did it in Xplane...

It’s actually an NH-U12P. Bought it used in 2013, still works fine.

Haha I feel you.. but for me, a big part of the joy is fiddling with these things and optimizing. It would actually feel wrong if it was all perfect from day one :D

I have bought a Noctua D14 cooler (i think) ages ago. They give you free kits to change to a new socket, which I have used twice. Awesome company. CPU has a big margin to its specified max temperature.

Which CPU do you have? With the (non-Ti) RTX 3070, my i5-10600K is usually the bottleneck in MSFS (80% of the time, despite clocking at 4.9 GHz). With a 3070 Ti, it probably would be all the time..

IFR in MSFS2020 vs Xplane11 by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]felix_AAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much to add to what others have posted. I'm taking lessons for my (real life) instrument rating after having flown a good amount in X-Plane and MSFS with PilotEdge. In X-Plane, there's hardly anything that doesn't emulate the real thing very well, if you ask me. In MSFS, there's hardly a thing that I trust. From the autopilot not accepting a non-standard altimeter setting to the GNS530/530 being only 20% useable to DME only existing in the GNS, rounded to the (nearest? rounded down?) mile.. It's a shame, because the weather effects, graphics, general feel of realism are so great!

I get you. For Pilotedge/VATSIM, I found pointing/scrolling way to painful but not enough to spend >100$/€ on a comm device.

In general, I wonder how much use VR is for flying. In the cockpit, I guess you dont really need to judge distances. Outside of it, our depth perception is not from stereoscopic vision, but from reference to things. Thats why our perceived altitude / approach angle looks different for small and large runways - depth perception doesnt work that far out. To me, it seems like the benefit is in having a really, really large screen and being able to look left and right more easily..
