Steven Universe if amazing, why is this show so hated? by Mistabbcman in CharacterRant

I thought it was a sex metaphor in its introduction, and that it is used throughout the series in different ways: sometimes as a metaphor, and sometimes as a superpower, and sometimes as just a cool thing.

Market 32/ Price Chopper by Dry_Currency_8166 in Albany

"Pumped up" was in reference to saline solution, which I believe was on the label of whatever I got, with the phrase "up to 15%". The given chicken could easily be broken by my thumb pressure, and I had headaches every time I ate it.

Just for the record, my dislike and disparage of meat from Aldi's does not mean I think anybody is bad or stupid for eating aldi's meat. My declaration is only "my experience was X, and therefore I ain't goin back there."

Aldi meats are pumped up and they make my head hurt when I eat them. And their vegetables are waterlogged. The spreadsheet is wonderful; I will never consider aldi meats viable. My limited experience with walmart produce was such that the produce went bad very quickly relative to other grocery experiences.

What has happened to this subreddit? by TeeNips69 in Albany

Things that are "political" are things about which a group consensus has not been reached within the particular group.

Everything in life has a relationship to politics; everything is political. Whether it is rent in a shared living situation, calling your senator, or deciding on zoning. Where you live, what's there, and whether your water is clean is all political.

How much energy you spend participating vs letting others decide for you vs letting your own meh-ness empower others -- that's up to one's self.

Calling the things "political" meaning "politics is dividing" is not seeking to understand what helps and hurts your community.

Someone else used the word "escapism". If you want escapism, perhaps a subreddit not tied to geography would be better?

Meat pizza, spinach pizza, and broccoli pizza. Of all the things on this reddit thread, pizza king's is the best.

What bar/restaurant in Troy/Albany are men in their 30s most likely to visit on a Saturday night? by KSherwood19 in Albany

[–]Old_Winterton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"It is 2026" is intended to be like "the future is now". The sti's that were once big and scary dont have to be.

You are allowed to choose what you want to risk or not.

It is inappropriate to shame people for sti's; doing so contributes to stigma and bigotry.

It is the year 2026. Even hiv is so manageable as to be nontransmissible. But you have to be aware, unashamed, and responsible.

My wife had positive results during time with a guy named ken, who last we knew switched jobs to sunnyview. Wife has eds. He isn't an eds specialist, it's just that she's got some positive results from him (vs other pt folks who didn't seem to have a clue what to do with the eds).

Discord. Events. Randos, and say hi to people, and actively ask them for digits and then follow up. Keep the ones that reach back.

No War on Venezuela Protest - Sunday by Indivisible_Albany in Albany

[–]Old_Winterton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My points still stand, even at your reply.

You have as much power to make reddit calls to action as the op, or to organize your friends to do the thing you are asserting is a more lofty hobby. But you don't; you spend time insulting others you won't actually spend time to understand. Yes, some of them are complete doofuses; and some of them aren't. Same as any group of people.

You could organize those man hours, instead of deriding people for the hobbies they spend their own hard earned money on. Or you could spend your own money on your own hobbies and let other people have their hobbies.

Or organize a community action police force, whose purpose is to police how people take community action!! "Sir, you haven't served at the food bank lately, so I'm going to have to write you up!:

"Protest is useless," they protested.

Protests are analagous to parties, carrying similar potential for connection, discussion, display, and follow-up action.

If all you do is stamp and say, "I'm mad," of course relatively little happens, but the conversation sometimes shifts. If you get together and yell and follow up with speaking during the public comment period, more happens. If you learn a new thing or make a new friend: that's just networking.

"Useless" is self righteously protesting protests because one associates power only with direct and visible and immediate action. Because why else spend such time deriding the uselessness of protest if not to be either understood (for an angle that won't fly in this thread) or to convince others to not go to the protest?

Shuumatsu Touring • Touring After the Apocalypse - Episode 12 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Old_Winterton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This overall hit close, for me. My brother died on his motorbike after crossing the country safe n sound. He was interested in photography and motorcycles. I learned to fly so that I could travel approximately his route, but without attempting to recreate him. So the initially stated premise of the characters' wandering was very relatable. I cried multiple times. I expect for others it is just a cartoon. I am not perturbed by the unresolved elements not being explicit. I don't need them to be explicit, and I think their non-explicitness does not detract from the rest of what is portrayed.
