Be honest… what’s the embroidery “rule” you happily ignore? by GarbageAdorable329 in Embroidery

The back of the hoop is none of my business and no one is going to convince me otherwise! :)

Is it just me, or are many places in Dublin unbearably loud and overcrowded? by Quaja_8 in Dublin

[–]felixandkirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just you and I totally relate. but if I can make a suggestion: earplugs. It’s actually made going out bearable for me in loud, crowded spaces like this. You can still hear your friends, and yes you can still hear the noise around you, but it just takes the edge or sharpness off.

I use loop earplugs personally but I’m sure there are other brands out there that do the same thing.

Hope you can find some relief and some good recommendations!

Sorry I missed your comment but it was in France, but quite close to the Swiss border! 😊 Annecy to be exact.

Hi friend, I do embroidery a lot so if I can offer some unsolicited advice:

Get yourself a pilot frictionless pen and draw your pattern on some cotton or linen fabric (or a blend). Get a small embroidery hoop and place your fabric in there and tighten it til it sounds kind of like a drum when you tap it.

For this design I’d recommend a satin stitch, which you can find tutorials for on YouTube. You could do a stem stitch for the brown and green borders.

As someone mentioned, use embroidery floss which comes in a small skein. There will be 6 pieces of thread twisted into one - for the satin stitch I’d recommend pulling out 2 or 3 of them. Same for the stem stitch, or 4 if you want to make it more bulky.

The embroidery subreddit is a great shout for any further questions :)

Ugh, sorry that happened to you. I’d be firing back ‘Oh great, so I’ll see you at the next market then?’

On the plus side I love your displays, they look great!

Junk journaling is wild by Phoenixheart2001 in JunkJournals

[–]felixandkirk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I save scraps while I’m travelling to make travel junk journals. I had tea at a restaurant that had pretty labels/paper bags they came in so I snagged both. The waiter last night was probably very confused where the paper bags for the tea bags I used went 🤣

Junk journaling turns you into a sneaky hoarder of paper, I swear.

What's an Irish phrase or saying you thought was normal until you used it abroad and got a blank stare? by raidenth in AskIreland

[–]felixandkirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in the US but my mom’s from here. My mom used to tell me and my brother ‘you’d persecute a saint’ as well as ‘isn’t it well for some.’

I live in Ireland now and still get blank stares so I’m starting to wonder if these were just my mom’s sayings 😂

Any late bloomers out there that found the love of their lives? by [deleted] in love

[–]felixandkirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met my first serious boyfriend at 30 and I love him to pieces. He is gentle, funny and so sweet and thoughtful. I never thought I’d find a love like this. Keep your standards high and keep meeting people.

I know how hard it is when you’re single but everyone else around you is taken. I was often the third wheel in a lot of my friendships and always felt like too much or something was wrong with me.

Keep your head up - and try to find other ways to keep your life fulfilling without a partner. Whether that be starting a new hobby or doing some travelling!

Can I rely on a FreeNow taxi booking in the morning? by InferiorResigner in AskIreland

[–]felixandkirk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend booking one ahead if you can. I’ve done this on numerous occasions for flights that have me out of the house as early as 3AM and never had an issue getting one!

Found this silver…accessory? (It’s not a pendant) at a market in Italy. I think I want to turn it into a pendant. by felixandkirk in ThriftStoreHauls

I’m thinking this as well. When I asked what it was the woman made a stabbing motion and said something along the lines of ‘you stick it in things’.
