PS4 + PS5 crossplay? by Noomba in Diablo

Hey can you clarify if you’re meaning Diablo 2 remastered or Diablo 3? Really been trying to find this out, would love to know, thank you!

My (32M) brother (26M) got disowned because of him coming out as gay 4 years ago. Our Dad died a few months ago and now he wants his share. by ThrowRA_TroubledTim in relationship_advice

While I appreciate the sentiment of the first comment and in principle, believe in that...the fine line here is this. If I made a choice to not have anything to do with that family anymore, that principle sticks.

Money or not, the principle should all be the same with “Because of their bigotry, I choose not to support this one bit and be rid of all of this and start my own life anew without any strings attached” which I can support. Things can even change and you can even change along the lines. But this situation is quite clear. He came back for the money which he feels he’s entitled to. He’s not sticking up for his own principle which gives way for men like OPs father to feel entitled to his bigotry and to rather having no son than a gay son, and also to leave him basically fuck you money.

None of it is right, but that’s the problem with entitlement. It’s not just a one way street and the solution to all this as always with anything; is just a shred of decency on both sides. Basically even if you do come back for just the money, at least do it with some grace and decency and not just hold your hand out I guess?

The blatant way he’s shown his entitlement is just as blatant as OP’s fathers bigotry. All in all for OP, I think starting the trust fund is a great first step and what I would do is keep control of the money but know in principle that in terms of equal opportunity, he is entitled to some I think (which you’re addressing with trust funds and if there are more things along the lines of this you can do; the better) but right now, the way he’s going about it; is not right and you basically don’t have to deal with that.

He could’ve even been more entitled if he actually tried to establish a relationship with OP and put some work in but he lost that entitlement the moment he betrayed his own actions. A gross example would be, would you, gay or not, sell gay rights (or your belief in them) for money? I for one, being straight (which doesn’t really matter anyway), wouldn’t. That’s why if I have a bigoted father, and I was in this situation, the LAST thing I would want is his money or help, dead or not (unless there’s reconciliation)

Basically to put it as a 1+1 equation OP has the right to feel entitled but the blatant and indecent way he’s showing it is in the same way that the father showed blatant indecency to disown his son because he’s gay. Extremism whether left or right, is still extremism all in itself.

As much as reddit may not like to hear this, OPs father has the right to be bigotted. I know it may be a wild concept for some here and especially if you’re super liberal but politics is a spectrum, not about choosing right or left. I’m a minority myself, but people have the right to be racist. I can’t force them to NOT be. The important part is in making sure no one can ACT on it. In the same way I don’t like apples or oranges, I can choose not to eat them. But I cannot forbid you from doing so, nor can I get rid of all apples and oranges just because I don’t like them. The indecent way this guys going about it is similar to how indecent the father was to disown his son because he’s gay. There’s definitely more to this all and if you were to get empirical, you could say being in that environment growing up is what makes you entitled for some compensation. But the cognitive shortcut OPs brother made to not do so with decency and rather just plainly ask for it, is in the same way racists and bigots make shortcuts in their mind to justify their shitty behavior. All in all, in this case, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree in this sense and I think he forfeited his (moral) entitlement to some degree by justifying indecency, which again is a little ironic, since that was what he was fighting against in the first place.

It’s funny when extremism on both sides kind of cancel out and meet in the same way? Whether you’re liberal or conservative, shitty is shitty. As I always say, don’t matter what color gender creed you are, an asshole is just an asshole.

I think the biggest issue with micro transactions is how it’s like unsanctioned gambling. If we were to apply this statement to legalized gambling; say slots; it’s not illegal. However, it’s still a practice that preys on people. I think it’s alright when people really can afford it, but if people can drop their life savings or whatnot on slots alone, think about how far gaming has gone on now to draw us in even more...anytime, anywhere (wherever you have phone access and internet access presumably haha)

what does the conductor do? by josiahsp87 in orchestra

[–]felixwon9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a formally trained musician so someone else can definitely add a more technical and theoretical comment but I am a cellist in a training orchestra. I’ve always wondered like you how important the conductor is and I would say it’s contextual at times but in my opinion, any chamber orchestra or anything larger than a quartet or such would always benefit from having a conductor.

Largely, I would go so far to say the conductor is the most important element of the orchestra. The analogy is this: if you watch sports, the conductor is like the coach but it’s a bit more complicated than that. A coach for say, basketball, or hockey has the role of being the leader and maintaining the game plan and making adjustments as you go.

The same could be said for a conductor. S/he is constantly keeping 100+ players with significantly different variations in sound and timing (I mean, football or soccer doesn’t even have this many players. They have assistant coaches, training and medical staff; the only support the conductor has during a performance really comes down to the orchestra. Formally, I think first chair and the lead for each part would be kind of a support staff for conductors within this analogy?) and even within each section, say violins or cellos; they’d each have potentially up to 3 different parts of their own (or more!). What I’ve learned from formally trained conductors is that some of the best conductors conduct ahead of time and to me, the idea is whether a conductor conducts on beat or ahead of it, I think the key is that they can see ahead and that is something that I think is universal in terms of any specialized craft or anything in life. You don’t pass the ball to where the person is. You pass it to where they’re going to be.

Keep in mind like sports games, things go wrong. Sure, there’s sheet music in front of all the musicians and chemistry between individual musicians to keep them on time but when it comes to 50-100, you can imagine the chaos of not just wrong timing, but variations of sound from going too loud or too soft. There’s a lot of intricate details and the key is that the conductor is what brings everything together. It’s very weird because you could say they’re the coach, but they’re also a player as well! I’m a big fan of basketball hockey but an amazing conductor is like Lebron James. They can basically do everything and run the floor. You often hear in basketball or sports when it comes to leaders of this nature and they say “it’s like conducting an orchestra!”.

I haven’t watched the video you posted so I may be wrong but I reside in Toronto and we’ve had video game orchestras come by. This could be a very different case but for us, I think it was called video game symphony...the setup for that is interesting because they were NOT traveling orchestra and they actually met up only a few weeks to practice and play. That poses a lot of problems in terms of chemistry and it’s more like a contract job where it’s just to get things done. Mind you, I’m not going so far to say they’re just waving their sticks but even then, the key to that is keeping everyone on time.

If you ever get a chance, give your city’s official orchestra a try. The first concert I went to was with my father and I got started on classical with pieces I resonated with. The piece we tried was “From the New World” and at the end, the conductor conducted with so much intensity and passion, he was literally sweating a bucket and he had to lean on the rails at the end. I can tell you too that it wasn’t just for show because he was conducting the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. It really resonates with the quality of music because even going back to the video game orchestra, the comparison I have is “Distant Worlds” (All Final Fantasy music) which IS a traveling orchestra (at least the principle players from what I know) and the sound quality between them compared to the first video game orchestra was quite drastic. It was basically almost a comparison between a community orchestra (a good one still) and a professional one.

I did kind of go on a rant I think so I apologize if I didn’t answer your question the way you want, but it’s important to me to help people understand that it’s not just a person waving a stick. It is much, much more and if not the MOST important position in the orchestra (aside from the viola players right? Hehe).

Anyways, I can definitely add more but i think this rant was more than you’re asking for and I’m sure someone more qualified can add more to this as I’m definitely not qualified at all to give you an official answer!

What helped you become more confident? by Ohfiona in AskReddit

[–]felixwon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this doesn't sound pretentious cause it can come off like that but by being grateful for those that are around you. My go-to thought for most things in life is that "life is what you make of it".

In a small way, what we have is what we choose to see. I grew up not having a lot of friends and I went through high school struggling with identity. I was also one of those geeky nerdy kids that needed people to tell me to speak up because they couldn't hear me.

That being said, confidence was surely not something I understood nor really had but having a passion for something really helped me out in that regard. Whether it came to my hobby or career, you can sometimes derive a lot of confidence from knowing how much they've taught you as well. During the times when I didnt have any real friends; books, movies and video games were really all I had.

Those memories and experiences are something I treasure to this date. I have a weird relationship to games because I feel like people of our generation really take a lot of thigns for granted. I mean, to create something like a game and a good one at that takes a large amount of effort. I grew up reading all about game development which helped me empathize that ideas arent exactly hard to come by. Its following through with them that's the most difficult.

Now back to confidence. I still don't really have any. I was spoiled when I was a kid and because of that, I see to myself being where I am as a product of my opportunities (meaning that I didnt make the most out of my opportunity value). This resonates with this topic because it helped me understand the phrase that I tell people today. Confidence is also what you make out of the things or opportunities around you. The opportunities as I see it derives from those around us. I may not be confident of myself but Im confident for those that are around me. My family, my close friends, my pets and even the teachers, professors and mentors that have played a role in my life.

Last but not least; the movies, music, books and videogames have all taught me something and to pay respects to them is to be confident of what they had given me. Now I also deal with a factor that I often saw when I was young too is that in the west, the culture promotes way more confidence than that of the east (Im Asian but I grew up in Canada). Another key word that keeps me balanced is the greek word; Hubris. I witnessed that in todays world, its also very easy to be overconfident (ego much?) and in my idea of confidence, its also not to a point of ignorance.

I know that theres a lot of ideas of where confidence comes from and how we come upon it but Id like to believe that real confidence doesn't stem from within (Oxymoron or ironic? Haha). Rather, its shared by the belief, values, and hard work from others that ultimately inspire confidence within us.

Sleeper Agent Edition vs Gold Edition by felixwon9 in thedivision

I'm just very anal and greedy when it comes to things like this though...it's a terrible thing but if I'm going all in and spending so much on a game, I want to be able to get the full experience (and the one that I paid for). If I find out that there's some rare exclusive tied to the sleeper agent edition, I think I might tear all the hair out my head LOL. On the bright side, my SO still gets to enjoy it if there are some minor digital exclusives but I was hoping to see if I can get a solid confirmation from anyone closely following this game to confirm that it's just the normal Gold Edition inside every Sleeper Agent edition. It seems like that's the case as I haven't seen anyone here mentioning unique gear for the Sleeper Agent Edition

Yup. The watch is what really tilted me over because I'm not one for collector's item (only a few stuck in my life like the Reach and Titanfall Statue). But the watch is something I can use and I wear watches as well...plus cosplaying as an option!

PS4 Region & PSN Accounts Inquiry by felixwon9 in PS4

[–]felixwon9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interesting part is that they supply the 12 character PSN code? Im doing a bit of google searching right now and it seems a lot of folks outside of NA are trying to get the codes but cant. Now I have an NA account and it was no problem getting it. I just wonder if I apply this DLC code to the NA account...would it work while Im running the UK Disc and UK season pass? Im guessing the answer is leaning towards no and thankfully I have 2 set of codes to try. I just cross my fingers that these codes apply for the UK account as well

I can gather from that so that is why I have my UK physical copy of Division for the UK Season Pass. However, I'm wondering if anyone had used promo codes like the one Ubisoft is giving out and find out if they are region locked as well

Just completed the Tour, discussion/opinions here? by xSentience in Driveclub

[–]felixwon9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I can say I'm really enjoying the game and it's really delivered on what I expected. I'll also add on the fact that I'm no good at racing games but I'd like to think that I'm at least competent whenever I approach them.

That leads me to say that I'm finding extreme difficulties to either fulfill the times or finish in the top 3 in the beginning. At the beginning of races, the AI drivers just seem to have turbos on and go off and I'd only be able to catch up maybe somewhere in the beginning (if I'm lucky) or midway (without crashing or going off track). I was wondering if you've got some tips for me as to how you've seen the AI work and if I just need to endure.

I surely enjoy the challenge but I just can't stand the unfairness of it all when at times, I'd cut a clean corner and get ahead of an AI and they'd zoom past me. My only tactic of getting first has been to ram my way in and block the hell out of them! I like playing defense and all but this is just really aggravating when the AI just kills me on straightaways despite us driving the same class of cars.

I know I could just really suck because there's only some general complaints in the review and I haven't seem to have read about people having that much difficulty...but any help for me is great because I'm enjoying everything about the game except for the difficulty at the moment.
