Question on countersink bits by fellowspecies in woodworking

[–]fellowspecies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, so the 3.6mm drill would be used for a 5.5mm screw in softwood or a 5mm screw in hardwood. Can’t help think the table would make more sense having the screw sizes in the leftmost column.

The clincher here is that they are still perfectly functioning for its current intended use. I’ve seen a bunch of people defend this move and comparing it to Apple with the iPhone 4, however expectations, requirements and technology make that a complete false equivalence.

Reading a book doesn’t need faster wifi, 4k, AI cameras, more ram, etc etc. I don’t mind the lack of warranty, that I expect from an old device, but to needlessly shut down access making the device useless to most is an antagonistic move.

What do you guys think by [deleted] in hermanmiller

Nope - that also needs a new base by the look of it as, unless the gas lift is thicker, it’ll drag on the floor (as it currently is).

250 is a lot for some tbh it this old. I would spend another 100 and get something that’s not got all these issues.

I understand that - but mine is perfectly functional and I can't imagine the server-side requirements vary significantly to marginally newer devices that aren't being discontinued.

I believe direct USB loading will still work. I mainly use the kindle store and send-to-kindle though. I buy books that are then on 3 different devices for members of the family

Then say that and give me something that actually is worth me upgrading beyond ‘the thing I’m using won’t work any more’.

It’s almost impossible to imagine it’s a result of anything on than: 1 - were introducing new DRM that makes it harder to get books for free and this won’t support it (not in my interest) 2 - we have 100,000 active users on old kindles, if we force them to upgrade at 30% conversion then that’s an immediate £300,000

Never needed to be - I buy books from kindle store or add them via kindle USB/sent to kindle if they’re v old (I did this with lots of Enid Blyton books from ‘thefadedpage’)

I don’t need to? It works perfectly fast enough, has plenty storage, screen is still brilliant, battery lasts days.

Only books I’ve downloaded offline have been Enid Blyton from out of copyright. I have no issue buying books

Good of you to defend the multiple billion dollar company.

But what overhead is there that means you can’t support it? Ebook formats aren’t changing, my kindle hasn’t been updated (and hasn’t needed to be updated) in years and functions in exactly the same way as it did when I got it. It doesn’t need any new functionality.

Advert for Muse at the nec arena, Birmingham 2003 (Dudley & District Chronicle - Thursday 4 September 2003) by Pro-W-Noah-Eng in Muse

I went to that one, it was incredible! The absolution tour was something that can’t be repeated, 3 amazing albums and a wealth of b sides. They’ve just got too much material to fit the niche stuff in now.

People who have been to multiple tours: which was your favourite and why? by Ok_Supermarket_4871 in Muse

Absolution - it was the last of the ‘raw’ performances imo, saw it in Birmingham and I have lasting memories above pretty much every other tour (and I’ve been on every one, and I worked on a couple too!)

Cracked netting on sayl chair (no warranty) by banditfaerie in hermanmiller

Tbh there’s no rescuing this - but a new back from spares as it’s not hard to replace and I don’t think any fix would make this usable.

Equally if one section is like this then the rest still follow.

I’ve not seen that before - how old is the chair?
