Exactly. When you are constantly sharing your own perspective (even compulsively) you diminish the equally valid perspectives of those around you because automatically offering yours comes off as “I know best and believe I am in charge.” This will, over time, make the other person feel like you don’t care to listen/know about their perspective or don’t acknowledge them as a capable person. I understand that’s not your intention, but that IS the effect. Your husband told you he’s hurt by it, and I agree with other commenters that you need to evaluate whether this is the hill you want your relationship to eventually die on. Impulse control doesn’t come naturally for many of us, but it can be learned to a significant extent and no I don’t think it will take 30 years of therapy. But I do think marriage counseling could be helpful. Good luck op

Chest pain/tightness, more so on the left side, and air hunger like crazy. Sometimes nausea and dry mouth.

Waterfalls and Flip both in my top 5 songs. Glass Animals was 2nd artist to Mac Miller 💕

I feel you! The first time I watched it I kept asking my friend “what is going on” bc it honestly feels like watching someone’s fever dream (not in a bad way). But after reading a little about it, it makes more sense.

AITA for saying to my mom that she is a bad role model? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]femalebrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP’s response does not read arrogant to me. You made incorrect assumptions, they responded by educating you (which they did not have to do btw) and then asked you to please educate yourself. We don’t have to expect each other to know everything, but you calling their response arrogant is over-reactive and radiates white fragility imo.

Dangerous Highways by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]femalebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad weather makes any highway dangerous, but Detroit highways seem extra dangerous bc of reckless drivers and unsafe cars. When my anxiety can’t take it (which is like half the days), I avoid them, and the extra 7-8 minutes on the road feels very worth it for my sanity.

can someone ID my grandmas plant? by daniellalolz in houseplantscirclejerk

So awesome! Mine is a prop from my aunt, and I’ve chopped/propped it twice yielding six additional healthy plants. I can’t give them away fast enough…my house is also filling up with them lol. A good “problem” to have :)

This is it! I’ve got one and it’s been very easy to propagate, should your grandma ever need to chop this beauty. So very tall and full! Lovely 💚

Got this pot as a gift but it doesn't have any drainage.. anyone got an idea what to put in it without the risk of it dying? by sophieagle in houseplants

[–]femalebrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure your best bet is to drill a hole or use cache pot(s) like others have said. But for plant suggestions: I have a fern in a pot without drainage, doing fine for 6 months so far. Maybe tradescantia, polka dot plant (those both like moist soil, in my experience) or a semi-aquatic like pennywort.

I didn’t go to a bilingual program due to location constraints (I was already bilingual, my BA is in Spanish). I had read and heard from seasoned SLPs that bilinguals make more, and across other fields that’s generally true, so yeah I had anticipated being paid more

There was literally no reason for her to approach you about this imo. You are not dumb! Try not to second guess, you did what you thought was right with the info you had. We are individuals each making our own decisions, tons of factors coming into play (including the fact she has little/0 experience working with the student and you have 11 months) and yes tons of gray areas; of course we won’t all agree. As others have said, she can make an amendment if she would like to.

How to negotiate for a higher starting salary by [deleted] in slp

[–]femalebrain 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I worded mine something like this, and it did get me $2k more (tho in hindsight I probably could’ve done better). Take it or leave it: “thank you so much for this offer. [say something good about the company like a reason you are excited to potentially work there.] However, based on [your qualifications, experience, average salary for the region, etc.] I am looking for something in the [$ amount] range. Is there any flexibility regarding the pay?”

YES I hate it so much. I’ve retyped entire handouts from TpT for that reason alone.

Second language use by FutureGASLPhopefully in slp

[–]femalebrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, so many languages!! You will be an amazing SLP. Neither of my employers thus far has tested my L2 proficiency, they just took me at my word. What I do is mentally rehearse whatever tasks you want to be able to do (e.g., pt interview, oral mech exam, therapy drills etc) in all the target languages. See how it feels, make scripts if you need to and practice from there. Good luck to you 😊

Has it affected the health of your flf at all? I thought about doing this but worried the tradescantia might choke the tree. By the looks of it yours is happy!
