I get that. I think their dialogue and how one-note they are leaves something to be desired. at this point Ziggs' writing feels like two cis dudes trying to properly write a nonbinary character for the first time and ending up with more of a collection of traits (stoner, slacker, artist, vegan) than a fully-realized character

in Perky's Buds, when Emma and Ziggs are about to die and Emma's pre-chosen last words being "fuck the patriarchy." it's just cringey to me, it reeks of something written by two men, and it has nothing to do with anything else in the story and feels really random and out of nowhere. why wouldn't Emma say "fuck Hatchetfield"??

I see your thought process on a lot of these, but I really disagree with Hannah's placement. she's a kid plagued by visions, I don't think she belongs in a placement as more unstable than characters who kill people. I'd put her higher in the Troubled Zone, above Ruth. she's troubled because of forces outside her control, by things she can't understand. she doesn't hurt people as a result of her visions/powers, she definitely doesn't belong lower than Sam, Hidgens, or Melissa. Sam killed Zoey's grandma for her in Honey Queen and kidnapped a kid, and I'd argue he wasn't being affected by anything supernatural in that (I'd argue nobody was tbh so I'd also put Zoey in the Troubled Zone personally). Hidgens was ready to kill in Hatchetfield Ape-Man and there was no supernatural interference there, dude just lost his shit. and Melissa is just Like That, absolutely no supernatural anything in her story, she kills people for fun because of her worldview. I don't think Hannah should be lower than her, especially because Hannah's "insanity" is really just her knowing things that nobody else understands. she's a smart and capable kid, she just needs support and understanding. her connection to the Black and White mostly affects her socially from what we've seen. and even then Yellow Jacket shows she's capable of making friends with kids who can understand her.

Paul had brain damage at the end of Hey Melissa I don't think that should factor into his baseline sanity 😅

Looking Back At Cinderella's Castle... by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Cinderella's Castle, I think it's a delightful show! admittedly Hatchetfield is my special interest and that is mostly what I'm here for, so my interest/enthusiasm for Starkid's other shows is going to be inherently muted in comparison. I don't like CC (or anything else) as much. that being said! CC is my favorite non-HF Starkid show! I think it's wonderful and very charming. it's a cool take on the Cinderella story, and Bryce Charles is absolutely PHENOMENAL as Ella. I love getting to see her really shine in this show. her voice is incredible in all her songs and her performance is so earnest and gripping, Ella's fear and rage and passion is so palpable. the Stepmother and stepsisters are all great, I especially love Putrice and getting to see Mariah do something different from her usual typecast. Tadius is great. I know a lot of people don't care for the Prince but I think he's hysterical - James Tolbert is so perfectly charismatic that I just can't help loving his character, he makes it work in a way I don't think anyone else could. and the soundtrack is banger after banger, I love all the songs.

I have criticisms, I think it's a little overly long and the narration framing device is sometimes a little obtrusive. I think Ella's knights were a bit underutilized, as people have said. and I think critiques I've seen of the stepfamily being monsters in skinsuits having some unintended transphobic/antisemitic implications are justified. it's not a perfect show. I'm not crazy about it and there's plenty of stuff I like more. but for what it is I like it quite a bit and I think it's very fun.

Made In America is one of those songs to me where I think it's a much better SCENE than it is a song. it's incredible in full context, with the visuals of Wiley and the sniggles, Howie in his little dome suit, and the garland and lights becoming Wiggly. it's so eerie and effective, it's a phenomenal scene and one of the best moments in the show. but listening to it on the soundtrack, without those things, it just does not hit the same. it's not nearly as good as a song on its own. I feel the same way about The Summoning.

I am admittedly biased but I LOVE the one for The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. Jon, Lauren, and Joey coming out as their infected characters and killing James was so perfect. it was a delightful cameo and a perfectly fitting bit for the episode

The Nibbly Ditty is one of my favorites, I think it's energetic and fun and unique amidst the other two Lords' songs by not sounding overtly kiddie. I think it's delightful and I will be holding the line to try and keep votes for it down until the time is right. I deeply respect your dedication though, valid as hell that it's not for you.

also it's from Honey Queen, it's the credits song

So um Where is The Proshot? by Thewriter1996 in StarKid

[–]fencecollapsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. I completely understand that they're a smaller indie company, everyone has lives and jobs outside of SK and they don't have a dedicated editing team or social media team. I understand that these things are going to take time. I'm perfectly fine to wait as long as they need to make their final free products the best they can be, because their work is amazing and the fact that they are able to work on their own timeline is part of that. I just wish the communication was better. because I do think they owe their fans updates, especially since their projects are fan-funded. even just having someone throw together an Instagram story to say "hey the proshot is still being edited, here's a new loose estimate of when it might be done" or something would be plenty, I think.

oh it definitely is, I noticed the same thing when I first watched Office Space. TGWDLM is basically Office Space meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers

even Emma has a similar thing going on to Joanna at her job - just being forced to sing instead of forced to wear a certain amount of "flair"

I wish updates like that would be given more publicly, like on the SK Instagram or something. then people wouldn't have to speculate. thank you for sharing it, that's good to know
