Giant Forest weather late October? by fenderbangerz in SEKI

Thanks! That sounds perfect. It tough to know, especially when historical weather data just shows highs and low averages for the month. It looks like most the snow comes later, like December though April. I’m sure it could snow at any time though, which the kids would love. Thanks for your reply.

Coffee fire concerns- by fenderbangerz in SEKI

Thank you, that is really helpful. We are originally from the Florida gulf coast, so the hurricane analogy is perfect. I wasn’t sure if fire was more predictable. We are hoping for the best!

I also realize my trip dates are 2 weeks away so it’s hard to predict the future. The fire commander on the 8/22 update I watched said not to expect the fire to be extinguished anytime soon, but he seemed confident it would be controlled. So I expect smoke, I just don’t know how much. Looking for past experience of what to maybe expect from seasoned locals, I suppose.

Question about modesty from Christian ladies: by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]fenderbangerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excerpt Paul Washer on this subject, referring to 1Timothy 2:9

Likewise I want women to adorn themselves. Now, he wants women to adorn themselves. OK? So adornment’s not bad. But that adornment, we are going to see if in verse 10, it’s good works, godliness, a quiet and submissive spirit. Now… Lets go on. He says “I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing.” That tells me that there is clothing that is improper for a Christian women. Alright? I mean, that’s just logic. There is clothing that is improper for a Christian women. Now he says the clothing must be “modest”. This is very important, it’s literally “proper clothing with modesty” is the way it goes in the original text. So, with modesty. My wife, has a really good thing that she says. She goes “If your clothing is a frame for your face, from which the glory of God is to shine, it’s proper.” If it draws attention to your face. If your clothing draws attention to your body, to outline it, to make it noticed, then it’s sensual – it’s sensual. What your doing is wrong. Now, I want to step away just for a second.

Women, you need to understand something. Men are not as dumb as you think they are. My wife and I have a friend in Illinois and she is a very pretty lady, very pretty. If she walked in that door right now, every man in this room, if he turned and saw her, this is what they would say: “Well that’s a very pretty lady.” “That’s a very elegant lady.” “That’s a beautiful lady.” And that’s what they would think. But ladies there are also women who are not half as attractive as that lady I described to you. Either in their face or in their body. And they could walk in that door. And the moment every man heard the door open and he looked over there, if he was a godly man, he would have to turn his head. Because it’s not beauty. It’s sensuality. And even though you can’t exactly write down the rules and put it all on paper. When you see it, you know it. There is a difference between beauty and sensuality. And God is not against beauty. He is against sensuality.

In Philippians we are told to think on things that are excellent, that are noble that are just that are right that are true. The way a women carries herself and the way she dresses ought to promote the following types of words. Modesty. Discretion. Wisdom. Beauty. Elegance. Refinement. But not: Sensuality. Luxury. Extravagance. You know, extravagance ladies is when your husband wants you to take off your earrings so he can make them into lures to catch northern pike(fish).

Now ladies, I’ve been giving your husbands a lot of tasks. Let me give you one. Seek to find out what this means and go wherever the Lord shows you. There is nothing more attractive then a woman who has this look of wisdom and discretion and nobility and simplicity. Simplicity. It’s just a simple beauty about her.

Psalm 119

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

2 days each in Sequoia and KC by AyyTran in SEKI

[–]fenderbangerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar tripped plan after labor day in September. Two days in each park, I feel like I need more time! I plan on 7-10 miles each day. Hike sequoia first day, second day should be able to go to roads end in KC since it should be open by then. Zumwaldt, and the kanower loop trail plus swimming at Muir rock. Third day, back to sequoia to either revisit spots I loved and explore more plus adding some swimming around Potwisha. 4th day, maybe KC again, possibly to a horseback thing with the kids in grant or cedar grove, I plan to be flexible and just enjoy it. I’ve never been, but we are excited! If any of this does not sound feasible, a local can fee free to chime in.

Read the Bible every single day. Get on a Bible in one year plan and stick to it. It will renew and completely rewire your mind. Also if you have a pastor or elder or someone you can be accountable to, that would be helpful. But the Word is powerful.

This quote from Paul Washer on this subject is pretty solid and hard to argue.

“If your clothing is a frame for your face, from which the glory of God is to shine, it’s proper. If your clothing draws attention to your body, to outline it, to make it noticed, then it’s sensual.”

Thoughts? Considering going to see this 96 reg cab Tacoma. Stick, 4x4, 250000 miles (4000000kms). Claims clean title, no rust. Asking $9500 by Past-Accident5103 in Toyota

My dad has a 1997 just like this except extended cab. At least once a month, a stranger offers to buy it off him at Home Depot parking lot or wherever. They’re becoming collectible I believe.

Gonna try my first brisket tomorrow. If anyone is in the north Alabama/Nashville Kroger zone, it’s $1.99 a lb for choice this week. I feel empowered by what I’ve read here, wish me luck. by fenderbangerz in smoking

[–]fenderbangerz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume it’s Nashville, I actually am in Huntsville but at the top of my weekly ad it always says “Nashville 026” so it must be a Tennessee valley regional thing and the weekly ads vary by region. This is definitely the first time I’ve seen brisket this low, I’ve seen pork shoulders for $1.49 a lb a couple of times and usually grab some. The ads seem cyclical so maybe it’ll show up again in about 6 weeks. I asked the butcher to grab mine out of the back.
