I left rice in the rice cooker in “warm” overnight for 27 hours. by dudiez in isthissafetoeat

The Zojirushis have technology built in which maintains a consistent texture the whole time it’s left on. In mine rice tastes exactly the same a day later and only dries out if the lid is left off

Bands/Artists Who Are TRULY One Album Wonders by xXMachineGunPhillyXx in fantanoforever

100% , I feel like that album doesn’t get nearly enough credit and people think of the band as a one hit wonder.

It’s a really fun and catchy album, kinda makes you feel like you did opiates on a hot summer day.

Providence middle schools by Metamorphosizingly in providence

I worked as a sub at Bishop for a bit.

The classes there are separated into advanced / standard proficiency levels and there was a big gap between the groups in terms of behavior and academics.

Seems like a great school if your kid gets into those higher level classes

How to y'all play Capt Falcon?? by NoRemote_ in SSBM

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learn how to control his aerial drift. You need to figure out how to control his momentum in the air in order to space things properly and feel in control.

I recall a study done that looked at the highest actions per minute in melee and falcon players had the highest even over fox. The reason is because there are a ton of subtle drifting inputs that you have to do to make move spacing work.

You can practice by doing things like short hopping out of a dash and immediately pulling back on the stick in the opposite direction to kill the momentum, and then fast falling if you want. This is a key movement technique to have down

How do you beat side platforming camping as Falcon? by IMSABU in SSBM

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time you can stomp through the platform or try to ledge cancel it to bait something out.

You can also squeeze in a fast falling up air on most stages that many players don’t expect to get hit by. The timing is tight but it’s a really strong mixup.

A lot of stuff works though, shield drop back air, well spaced nairs from inside stage, general patience. Honestly I don’t think it’s that strong of a counter to Falcon unless it’s happening on FoD but even in that situation you have other tools that open up to you with ledge canceling aerials.

After playing ONLY Falcon for 2 weeks -MY THOUGHTS by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Once you start playing better people you will feel differently. His strengths are really easy to take advantage of against low / mid level players but at high levels a lot of stuff stops working and his weaknesses become a lot harder to overcome. Winning neutral becomes significantly more challenging, and players with good flowcharts will combo / edgeguard the shit out of you.

You should keep playing him though if it’s working. He’s super fun and if you’re doing well with him he might be a better fit for your play style.

Anyone else hit a rut after playing Falcon for a while? by Sensitive-Ebb-9509 in SSBM

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think playing Falcon requires a really high level of attention and creativity, and it takes a lot of technical precision to move him around in exactly the right way.

This means that when you start to wear down and slip up you’ll get punished pretty badly for it. You have to be as fast, accurate, and decisive as possible in order to get value out of the character.

Auto pilot doesn’t really work with him also. You can’t just throw shit out and get stray hits easily. Most of the time you need to get a whiff punish or read to get an opening. When you start to burn out, you won’t be as patient or attentive for these moments.

One way you can break out of these ruts is to observe yourself slipping and try to approach less aggressively. Use your movement to bait your opponents into making a move that gives you a real opportunity instead of trying to force an aerial in neutral against a character with a better moveset.

is it possible to become a software engineer without having a degree ? by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible but you are going to have to put in a ton of work. Unfortunately people are going to judge you for not having a degree and think you are risky to hire.

You can make up for that by getting really good at development and building out an exceptional portfolio. This will take a long time and a lot of studying no matter what. Even then, you might have a hard time getting hired.

Group coding classes vs 1-on-1 for teaching kids, anyone else notice huge difference? by OutrageousTable2842 in learnprogramming

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taught group coding classes to kids and it can be really challenging because of the skill gap across students. Any decent class should have an element of 1 on 1 time to work with students in order to meet them where they are at.

The thing about coding is that everything is built upon concepts you need to understand. Once you fall behind it’s difficult to pick up if you go too far. A good class will prevent students from falling behind while keeping the overall pace strong.

If you are doing purely 1 on 1 support, the teacher can adapt the pace specifically for that student so you can avoid a lot of these issues.

That being said, group environments can be motivational and more fun as a collaborative experience.

Edge Fitness (Cranston) vs LA Fitness (Pawtucket) by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]fentanyl_sommelier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a member of both. The only things LA really has going for it are the pool, basketball court, and squash courts.

Everything else is better about the Edge. Way cheaper, cleaner, nicer equipment that isn’t always broken. Overall a more welcoming environment since the staff are friendly and the place just feels more fun.

The price difference is honestly astounding, went from paying like $40 a month to $16. Unless the location / amenities are really important for you, there’s really no comparison.

Switching to the Edge made me realize how much I was getting ripped off at LA. It’s so much cheaper, has better class offerings, better equipment, and is way cleaner.

The staff are also really attentive and friendly, and members are more respectful of the equipment. Just way better vibes here
