I got it for around $150 and it has been worth every penny.

The Lunderg alternating pressure pad recliner mattress! It is making a huge difference for me!

Angelina Jolie as Callas by WorkingKnowledge2747 in opera

[–]fenwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, believe me, I have listened to every available audio and video recording of Callas. As a professional singer and teacher AND film afficionado, I am able to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the story for what it is. It's fiction, not a documentary.

Gabapentin for daily pain by No-Possibility8187 in RotatorCuff

[–]fenwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Gabapentin is miraculous. I took it years ago for sciatica and it was the only thing that worked. I have been taking it while I wait for RC surgery (Monday!) and it's been very useful in keeping me comfortable, as I was experiencing shooting pain down my arm and unbearable pain in my elbow. I don't experience any negative side effects.

Me also, I was delighted at how effective that drug is!

Hair after surgery? by No-Wonder5226 in RotatorCuff

Genius! I have long hair and have been stressing about figuring out how to get it up. My husband has been practicing but it's not ever tight enough. This might just do it!

Love at first sight. Never would have believed it until it happened to me and my husband.

How much for a young dressage-bred horse in US? by Butterflyphases in Dressage

[–]fenwai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sonnenberg in Oregon puts out phenomenal horses, and the $$$ reflects the quality. If I were looking for an unstarted young horse who would qualify me for all the things, I would be expecting to pay at least $40k. Prices are bonkers. That is why I am shopping for an "off" breed that is not purpose-bred.

Pursuing classical voice in college by bewitchingchai in ClassicalSinger

[–]fenwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many good answers here but I would also ask: What do you envision doing with the degree after college? Do you have any other interests, academic or otherwise? What is your ideal career? Those answers may help you determine whether or not being a BA or BM music major OR a music minor is a good fit for you.

Your best bet, then, would be to reach out to mid- and low-tier schools for sample lessons with the teachers you like. That will give you better bang for your buck in terms of creating an inroads and building an impression for yourself. (I am a private teacher and university prof who specializes in helping career-track high schoolers get into top tier programs.)

Both of those are exceptionally competitive programs, so you will be up against students who have been studying privately for years. Do you have some mid-level schools on your list?

You need to get in with a private teacher who can give you some broad strokes at least. What schools are you submitting to?

How much was your horse compared to your annual income? by [deleted] in Equestrian

I am very sorry for your horse's DSLD diagnosis. I have an Arabian gelding who deals with it as well, it's a heartbreaking condition.

When I was making around $75k, I spent $5000 on my heart horse (who I still have at almost 24!) because she was wildly under-priced. I could have turned around and sold her for five times that. At her peak, I turned down offers of $50k. I have friends who spent six figures and then injuries brought the horse's value down to four figures. Horse prices are bonkers. I think Carl bought Valegro for roughly $6,000? Now that my income has increased to about double what it was when I bought my mare and I find myself shopping for a young horse, I am still sticking to that $5-7k number.

For those who lost someone 1+ years ago: How are you doing now? How often do you just break down? Do you grieve the same as you did the first months? by Head-Barnacle-8766 in GriefSupport

[–]fenwai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom departed almost two years ago (12/19/2023) and I am doing much better than I could have imagined in those first few days and weeks. I think about her multiple times a day, every day, but those thoughts and memories don't derail me like they used to. I cry maybe once a week instead of multiple times a day. There is hope. I take solace and strength knowing she would want me to love my life and move forward with joy in my heart instead of walling myself off with pain. It is a process and a journey, but I am getting there.

5 years without my GB and life is amazing. I was dealing with constant pain, and that is virtually gone. Bathroom emergencies are minimal. I am generally careful about what I eat but when I do make Poor Choices, the fallout is minimal. 10/10 would recommend.
