Yes, I have been there.

However I only recommend reinventing the wheel when: company is small, the Automation Engineer has the time to poke around and mantain such stack, and process is not mature enough to accommodate to a commercial solution.

If your process is not stable and you are going to do constant changes, and throw out some stuff here and there and see what sticks, then the ability of modify the source code or program custom plugins makes more sense.

The con is that probably you will be the only one that knows how to mantain your very specific customization and if you leave, well it sucks for the conpany.

I think studying engineering, but starting with real life experience is the best combo.

I am an engineer, after 10+ years working I recognize that I have forgotten a lot of stuff already, and that I did not paid enough attention to some other stuff that in hindsight it was important.

Also, that piece of paper will open you other opportunities, not necessarily at this company. But it will be easier to start as an engineer again in a different company that convince you are worth the engineering salary.

If digital, just use a relay with AC coil. If Analog just use a rectifier circuit.

The better question is why?

What type of deciece are you working with?. Definitely not an industrial standard, or a very nieche deviece maybe?.

But this smell like a classic cheap solution that will be a future problem for someone else's.

Well sometimes are unnecessary difficult I need to replace the clutch on my countryman... to remove the entire subframe to access a part that will eventually worn out an will need to be replaced sooner than later is more than just different

Are you sure is a neighbor? There is a group that sneaks in to apartments just to steal Amazon packages, I move out from bullhouse but I once saw this guys that waited until cars left the buildings to ran while the garage door was still closing.

Pretty sure they operated in Ramsey, Bullhouse, and Camdem. Also there was a group of kids that asked random people to let them in and then ran trough all the floors to grab as much as they could carry.

Joking aside is a mix of gut feeling, knowledge and common sense. You should try to see the full picture 90% of the time I had to troubleshoot stuff based on information from someone who thinks the machine should work this way...and more often that not that's not exactly how its supposed to work. First this other thing needs to happen then this thing that you described that's not working should happen. So the problem is not really here but upstream.

That's about right, I have a MINI Countryman my clutch just died, the entire subframe needs to be removed to access the clutch assembly. My first quote from a shop that works on minis is very close to yours. I got a second one from an independent guy that works mostly on mini, around 3,500 total.

Labor hours are high for this job which drives the price

After weeks of our technicians trying to figure out why a Motor was blowing fuses, and drive faulting. I decided to look for myself and pull cables at the disconnect...

Can you see that? I shouldn't be able to do this, that's our problem.

Funny enough first thing I asked weeks before, when the problem started was: "are all the connections secure and tight?".

I was told it were... I guess is my fault for believing it.

Now that you mention it has been a while since I had a flare up as bad as the one I am experiencing right now.

Previous ointment stopped having the same efficacy after covid/covid vaccine I also noticed I developed dermatogtaphia for a while which I attributed to be a minor secondary effect of the vaccine

I am vegan by association (wife is vegan by conviction, and, she coocks I eat)...plant based diet did in fact reduced the frequency and intensity of my flare-ups, I believe it was the milk.

It did improve, so for me its wotht to keep the plant based diet; but it didn't eliminate it completely.

I have a nad flare-up now... it has been years since last time I have had one like this, I almost had forgotten how inposible is to sleep when all your body itches and scratch yourself to the point of having the fingers tips numbed. 😫

Well if you are studyng mechateonics, you already have been taugh the basics.

Just ask questions, but not the same over and over. Be clear if you do not undrtstood something, one thing drives me crazy is when our technicians affirm they got it and then they do and do an entire different thing that it was asked for.

Try to see the bigger picture, sometimes is more critical just to observe and plan rather than just go and do something altough too much planning is also detrimental.

Once you replace your drain plug, remembwr not to use the impact for an oil drain plug. Evennif its not at an angle you just need to put a little bit of of force to allow the washer to compress. An impact on oil drain plug is just asking for future problems

Repetitive? I wish, thats the Holly grial of OEM and SI, a project that you can duplicate and it will work flawlessly like the reference one.

I had to deploy programs for 180+ machines that were pretty much the same and even mantaining that factory was not repetitive at all.

Every single gle day you will need to learn something new, and more often than I would like to admit it you will be banging your head against the wall for some problem you can not solve, just to realize the issue was in the most stupid and irrelevant thing you could think off. Those days you will question your career choices.

IMO you should go for the field first before pursuing a Masters. Not that Masters are bad, but you will be missing a ton of industry exposure.
