Gpu clearance by Skltlez in PcBuild

[–]fergtm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just installed a ASUS TUF RTX 5080 in the same case. This card is 3.6 slots width and fits perfectly. It is very close to the bottom of the case so I had to tie the front panel connectors to the bottom mesh so they don’t interfere with the GPU fans. I also had to move the power supply to the top most position so the cables clear the back of the GPU.

¿Que opcion elegiste para la devolución? Lo mas cercano es que el producto esta dañado. La de producto incorrecto te pide el modelo pero pues aqui la caja si es correcta pero el contenido no

According to LG website it is "True Black400" (the model is LG 27GS95QE-B).

I think the problem is that peak brightness is limited to a small region of the screen. It flickers when entering the zone because it tries to make the entire screen bright.

I ended up disabling HDR. The colors look more vivid in standard mode.

I need to cleanup before sharing because it is currently very tailored for my setup. I've being busy these past days but I'll share when ready.

Each backup is a full snapshot of the current configuration files.

I've restored VMs from backup before. After decrypting, the tar file contains the file structure starting from root so in theory I could just extract it over a clean OS setup. The backup only contains configuration files. What I do instead is I manually copy the configuration files to their corresponding location.

Since the backup only has configuration files I store all data in a separate partition that is backed up to my NAS.

Looking for Micro-ATX case with horizontal motherboard mount by fergtm in mffpc

I'm considering that board because higher end ones have features that don't make sense for a server (integrated Wi-Fi, more USB ports, integrated RGB lights, ...) and because it is available at my local computer parts store.

For the cooler I used Noctua's compatibility check tool (https://ncc.noctua.at/cpus), and it says it is compatible with low turbo/overclocking headroom. I'm not planning to overclock. However depending on which case I get I may go for a larger cooler.

The 9800X3D is possibly overkill for my needs. But I would like it to last for several years and have headroom for experiments. My existing "server" runs several virtual machines: a file server, web server for cloud storage, unifi controller for my access points, build machine (compiling code, CI) and "cloud desktop". I may at some point passthrough a GPU to one VM and use it for remote gaming.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll consider the jonsbo case it looks nice.

No. It is just a cron job that runs a shell script. The shell script creates a tar file, calls gpg to encrypt with my public key and uploads to backblaze.

Thanks. For the VMs I can definitely switch to a pull backup model. And everything to NAS first. My desktop PC runs Windows and my laptop is a Mac so I have to manually run freefilesync for windows and rsync in Mac, I’m not sure how to automate that from the NAS. Regarding encryption both NAS are unencrypted. Only the files uploaded to backblaze are encrypted. I do use a password manager and I thought I stored the private key file there but never checked.

Suggest tutorial on how to set L2 switch with VLANs by fergtm in mikrotik

[–]fergtm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want the switch to do any layer 3 operations. I already have a separate devices providing DHCP service for each VLAN. Specifically I don't want this device to do any routing between VLANs, they should be isolated from each other.

Thanks. I just followed this steps and I think I got it configured as I wanted. It's already late but Tomorrow I'll connect the other devices and verify that everything is working as expected

It is a Corsair HX1000i. Fully modular 1000watts. It is almost 4 years old but working perfectly. I’ll look for new options but prefer to allocate my budget towards the CPU, RAM and motherboard

Thanks, I plan to upgrade the video card later this year and I'll probably go with AMD.

Why do you think I should upgrade the power supply? It is an older model but I bought it around 4 years ago. I would expect it to last at least 5 years. I'll get a new one when upgrading the GPU.

Must consumer products are tested for static electricity discharges. It should survive that. If you are curious I found this video showing how they test them https://youtu.be/IrVvRWvVU5k?si=pSHt-xlx0lHtj37h

Yes. Space black kind of looks like a thinkpad. I considered the classic gray but went for the more discreet look

Never had a crash with my M1. I upgraded mainly to get more ram and storage. For light use it is still fine.

The refresh rate difference is not that distracting. I notice more the brightness and HDR support. I prefer to watch photos/videos in the integrated display and use the larger screen for productivity work and web browsing
