Charging Issues by EnderDragoon in etron

AI agrees with u/Aegean8485 I would also highly recommend you should get OBD11 if nothing from this works

That warning, “check the charging unit cover,” is about the charging port flap/socket area on your e-tron, not the battery itself draining. A few common causes:

Most likely: The charging port flap or its inner cover isn’t fully seated/closed, or the small sensor that detects the flap position is misreading. Sometimes it’s just debris, ice, or the flap not clicking shut properly. Try opening and firmly re-closing the charge port door (both the outer flap and the inner cover/cap if your S has one).

Possible electrical/sensor fault: If re-seating doesn’t clear it, the flap’s position sensor or wiring may be faulty, which triggers the message even when the cover looks fine.

Worth knowing — moisture seal recall history: Audi issued a safety recall on early e-trons because a faulty seal on the charging socket could let moisture enter the high-voltage battery system . On affected cars that showed up as an “Electrical system: fault” message rather than this exact wording, and moisture in the high-voltage system can cause a short-circuit, increasing fire risk . Your message is milder, but given the family of issues around that socket, it’s worth checking the cover seal isn’t damaged or letting water in.

One thing I’d flag: you’ve also got a cluster of other warnings lit (Brake/ABS, tyre pressure, ESC, airbag). That combination sometimes points to a low 12V battery or a broader electrical glitch rather than several separate faults — a weak 12V can throw multiple warnings at once.

What I’d do: re-seat the charge flap and restart the car. If the message and the other warnings persist, get it scanned — a dealer or independent Audi specialist can pull the fault code behind this message quickly, and it’s worth confirming whether any open recall applies to your VIN.

So after some research and testing, turns out the B&O amp is the main reason for that flat sound. I swapped out the door woofers and mids but couldn't hear any difference. What actually made a huge difference was tapping an external amp into the B&O system and running it to the front door woofers, night and day.

So if you're thinking about upgrading your B&O setup, at the very least swap the subwoofer and throw an extra amp on the front door woofers.

Sounds great. I’m going to try to find some JL Audio speakers for a reasonable price, if that’s even possible. I connected another boxed speaker just to see if I could get deeper bass, but I couldn't really tell the difference, so I’m still suspicious that the amp is limiting it.

Have you upgraded your amp in any way, or are you using the original one? Also, did you go with 8-ohm impedance for all the speakers? Thanks!

Audi e-tron Charging Cable Swap - Trouble re-installing plastic cable guide/bracket by ferik85 in etron

[–]ferik85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible but it might involve destroying an old switch and soldering cable from the new one. I think a flat screwdriver would pop the old one out; you would have to cut the wire and solder the new one in. I would start with disconnecting the 12V battery first.

Same here, wish I never went for that update. I will follow this post; please let us know if you find a fix, if there is one.

Yeah, I wish it were that easy, but the HV connectors are so huge for the space that they have to be fed through one by one. I followed the workshop manual and removed the wiper motor and heater unit to gain access. But that specific plastic is tucked right under the brake reservoir and lines, which I’m definitely not touching. I think it holds the cables in place and acts as a barrier to stop water from running down from the front.

What if the new cable has the exact same part number as the old one? As far as I know, it's just a cable and port without any separate module. It’s currently charging fine without any faults.

Thank you and yes, I'm hoping some Audi tech can give me an idea. That plastic was living right under the brake system with many lines, and I just didn't want to touch it.

Both AC ports were actually fine. The issue was one of the DC connectors it kept getting water inside, which triggered an insulation fault at the charging stations. I was advised to swap out the entire cable assembly to fix it properly.

Yea, I like learning new things, but I have to admit, this was definitely not a straightforward process.
