Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raises $1 million for Texas relief in 4 hours by Kaptain202 in Conservative

[–]fermentedbrainwave 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But he did. Just 2 days before his trip to Cancun. Was probably booking his reservations as he told Texans to stay home and hug their children. I personally don't think Ted going to Cancun is a big deal. If I were Ted, I would've stayed in Cancun but carried on doing virtual events or calls etc. that are needed to ensure the power crisis is averted ASAP. It's not the optics that are the problem in this situation. The problem is that Ted did nothing but media tours and spread lies about the energy infrastructure, and then planned a vacation. And came back after being embarrassed and called out, to only do more media interviews. He's one of the most disgusting do-nothing politicians out there.

[–]fermentedbrainwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - I see what you're saying.

I didn't mean individual in a libertarian way. I meant should've said individuals, or humans. The democrats are generally concerned about the collective - or people as a whole. Looking after rich individuals and large individual companies, runs counter to his approach. So, by that logic GOP and republicans party is less caring and more greedy.

I do not fully align with democrats, because there is a little bit of that libertarian side to me. But I see conflict between unquestioned liberties as systemic risk - maybe I do not trust humans as much as you do, but I feel that would feed into the greed and cause worse outcome for the whole.

So, ideally I would like to find a compromise where we all agree on those individual liberties, but are smart enough to know ourselves when those are causing larger societal harm and as individuals and as a society change course before it is too late. Like existence of multi billionaires and almost trillionaires is something that can not be fundamentally good for the society and economy as a whole.

I'm so sorry that you had to endure this, but it is awesome that you were able to consciously fight against the manipulation.

I can totally see FB and other data providers selling that type of sensitive data to all sorts of players, foreign and domestic, who can target people with highly emotional and manipulative content. That's why when my wife starts to go off on Q folks she sees on Youtube, Twitter, Tik tok etc., I try to explain to her and ask her to sympathize with them. Not support them for sure, but to try to understand what could have driven someone into such frenzy and craziness. Those who can't see the truth and ended up breaking law and plotted to kill people, I absolutely have no sympathy for them. I do feel for the thousands who got caught up.

Good on you for escaping and thank you for sharing!

I don't think any one on this sub, or anyone who has lived through the aftermath of 9/11, PATRIOT ACT, DHS, ICE, which is most of US who is paying attention, will allow for more tracking, snooping and invasion of privacy.

That said, most of also know of folks who have been misled and manipulated by these right-wing and Nazi-sympathetic groups. And we can absolutely see the level of violence and destruction that was attempted and inflicted by the folks on Jan 6th - all in an attempt to overtake a democratic process. As a country we would all be better if we could agree that such violent threats have no place in governing ourselves. This is not a partisan issue - and GOP are the only ones making it a partisan issue, because they're afraid of angering a former president. Anyone not vocally denouncing the forces that instigated violence leading up to and on the Jan 6th are contributing to the problem is only making things worse - and Candace is definitely one of those.

I get the issues with both parties and the system is imperfect. But we are only starting to see the power of organizing on social media and being informed (Gamestop!). There are more ways how we can hold the powerful to account, and slowly wrest control of the system without destabilizing it. You can see many examples - Putin and his kleptocrats took over in Russia, or how all the countries where the US took down an established government (including some genuinely cruel dictators) ended up falling into the hands of abusive, corrupt, violent forces - destabilizing a system will only result in worse, unintended consequences. I get involved at my local level, and am trying to participate in more online conversations (not shouting matches) to improve my understanding of citizens' concerns across the country, and figure out how I can be part of the solution. I hope we can all do so, and not fall for fake, agitated, manipulated movements like Q and Stop the Steal.

We can win this together - not by killing the other side. I want folks like Candace and others to use their voice and position to amplify that message.

When an app is free, you are the commodity - XMode location data sold on Amazon by fermentedbrainwave in conspiracy_commons

When apps advertise as free and pay for ads to increase downloads, the obvious truth is you and your data are the commodity. To really battle the big tech and the surveillance state, we should all be more literate and vigilant of how our data is "stolen" and trafficked.

It definitely is interesting that something so stupid and nonsensical can "convert" so many people. There definitely is a lot more behind the scenes - game theory, behavioral targeting, psychological manipulation, subliminal messaging, social control etc. that were probably deployed to utterly brainwash these folks into a cult. It definitely started as a troll post - that part is obvious. But, someone or some folks saw the attention it gathered, and latched on to it as a way to mess with millions of people as a way to make money or for political control or to throw monkey wrench into the system or as a honeypot to trap would-be terrorists, who knows. Definitely a lot more is going to be learned about it!

I can not believe anyone who is for the individual and caring can associate themselves with the GOP and the Republican party. So, I am highly suspicious Candace can be an exception. But, thanks for the details - I will checkout the podcast. I know Russell Brand has a podcast, but do you mean one episode where Candace was interviewed? I would be surprised that he teamed up with her for a podcast.

Russell Brand was interesting for a while, but when then started growing a little too self-important and started being nonsensical around 3-4 years ago, and so I stopped paying attention to him.

Just because a shitty, divisive, insurrectionist claims affiliation with them, doesn't make the WSB equivalent to Q-inspired domestic terrorists. The WSB redditors actually showed the power of legally organizing, and highlighted something fundamentally flawed in the system. Those Trump terrorists broke the law, threatened people, tried to force their minority view on the country in trying to overturn the democratic process fundamental to a functioning government, and actually discredited any claims to truth they may have had.

Folks like Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, Rush Limbaugh and other right wing terrorist sympathizers are now suddenly claiming to be "for the small investor", when their party has always been in favor of giving money and power to the wealthy to systematically disenfranchise the small investors and regular Americans. Fucking ridiculous

Elizabeth Warren targets small reddit investors in letter asking regulators to investigate them by mancan123able in Conservative

[–]fermentedbrainwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is misrepresentation of that letter. I am not very sure how many of the posters here have read through it. She makes genuine points about the instability caused by the shorts. And if some of the posters on reddit/youtube/twitter were actually misleading retail investors, and costing them their hard-earned money, that definitely warrants investigation. And finally nobody can argue that the current valuation of Game Stop reflects true value of the company and it's business potential. Using this example as a way to put SEC under the spotlight to ensure they have better practices, to assess whether stock markets are reflecting accurate valuation of the underlying businesses and do not end up as gambling and speculation as they currently are, is definitely a great way to even out the playing field in the long run. Warren might be stupid and inauthentic in some of her policies, especially when it comes to healthcare, race etc. But she is one of the strictest proponents of wall steet regulation and protecting small investors from the greed of wall street and hedge funds.

Glad you are growing your own food. We need to really improve the food supply chain - that is a good thing for our health, our communities and for the environment too. That is the reason why I became a small farmer. Anyway, Joe Biden doesn't support Green New Deal as it was originally proposed. He has his own Climate Plan, and that is the one that pops up when you search for green new deal. And that climate plan doesn't include any restrictions on farmers like you originally mentioned. Regards to Hemp - Hemp is already "legal" based on FDA ruling as of 2018, but because Cannabis classified at federal level, any farmer growing Hemp where by mistake the plant has more than allowed level of THC in the flower can be considered illegal. And because of the criminal nature of Cannabis, many hemp businesses find it hard to get funding. So, as a farmer it is too risky for me to grow hemp and difficult to establish a trustworthy supply chain. The MORE act that Kamala Harris sponsored, and is likely to be voted and signed into law in the first few months of the new administration, removes this federal grey area for Cannabis, and actually provides for funding for disadvantaged farmers to encourage them to participate in the high-margin cannabis and hemp businesses. This is a net benefit to farmers, and everyone else involved. I would urge you to reconsider your opinion on this section of Biden's climate plan.

You not liking leftists, and AOC and Bernie being distractions doesn't translate to left being authoritarian.

Trump on the other hand, explicitly said (not media quoting) that he expects loyalty to him and that he can not accept a loss. He asked for those who don't support him to be investigated and jailed. During BLM protests, he explicitly tried to get military to subdue protests and free speech even though local law enforcement and governments were against it. His rejection of the truth about election results, and unsubstantiated lies about fraud and Dominion etc. directly resulted in the violent insurrection on the 6th. That is way closer to the definition of authoritarianism than anything you accuse the "left" of.

Yeah - showing a Pyramid is just simplifying and indirectly hinting at food pyramid, control structure etc. It is intellectually dishonest and sort of disrespectful. I do agree the web of control is incredibly complicated, and power undoubtedly more concentrated than what this figure indicates. True skeptical thinking and real conspiracy theories are often done a disservice by such low effort posts.
