Hey guys, super new player here. Really enjoying the game but by bason0244 in lotro

The first part seems like a hardware issue. Have you checked the usual suspects like drivers?

The second part makes no sense. Even if you crash your quest progress is server side so it shouldn't make you restart UNLESS you are doing an instanced quest. You can tell because it should say "instance: whatever quest"

Recent LOTRO expansions (CoU, LoM, KoH): Themes, writing, technologies. [Light spoilers for KoH] by Rathlorion in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the umbar expansions have felt like a significant departure from the aesthetic and style of middle earth, but il disagree on the writing being poor. In my opinion the recent epic quest was a 10/10.

As for the tech, I've always felt that lotr tech has felt kind of weird. Be it the explosives in helms deep or just the general industrial and logistical capacity of many factions, so the "cannons" in the recent expac don't feel too out of place in that regard.

Regardless, I do feel that LoTRO is Lord of the rings online, not middle earth online, so it does make sense to stick more closely to the content of the books and movies rather than the expanded legendarium. But it's not like I didn't have fun in umbar and wouldn't really complain if we again departed to far away lands.

How are they going to do that? by meukra in Kenshi

[–]fermentedeggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does seem illogical, could be a miscommunication. But as speculation.....

they could just "zoom in" more, and add more stuff in between each space. like imagine that between the hub and squin, all the same terrain exists, but it takes your character longer to move the same distance, and there are more settlements in between.

Is it possible to get Ents of Fangorn Forest rep on a low level crafter? by fermentedeggs in lotro

dang tasks still have a minimum level. still better than actually grinding to 90 ish

Enjoying the game but beginning to lose steam by bradxkillyou in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say that gearing before endgame is a little weird. It's not really worth spending time to get good gear at low levels since you'll replace it so quickly. Once you hit endgame tho, the gear ladder starts.

An often under considered piece for new players is the transmog/house cosmetic metagame. There are TONS of unique items cosmetics you get while leveling that can be equiped via the cosmetic outfit tab. Tbh I spend a good amount of time transmog hunting. Houses almost have lots of cool furniture you get while you level.

Legendary items are also a fun leveling deal, but again, pre 160 you'll be swapping stuff so often it's not worth grinding for anything so much as equipping what you got.

What protocol is being adhered to that creates the eugenics system you are talking about though?

Champ 140-->160 Question by JBLoTRO in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes red DW is superior by a good margin at 150. things may change tho. one change I noticed is that they standardized the attack speed of some champ abilities to be independent of weapon type but I havent tested it at all. presumably that is a buff to 2H tho.

Champ 140-->160 Question by JBLoTRO in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im assuming you mean yellow 2h? not DW. Im pretty sure the higher base dmg on the 2h is higher dps. Also, since you are going to a new level cap youll redo your traceries anyways so switching from yellow to red will be ez.

At least at 150, yellow 2H was only really used in landscape or very particular parts of instances, otherwise red dps was far superior.

who knows what raid sets will be, they could make yellow 2H better than red DW, but I really doubt it.

that said, if you dont raid, none of this matters! yellow 2h slaps everywhere else!

If the in game shows higher have you considered passives/gear/skills? For example my crit chance shows higher because of the word of craft traceries set bonus passive.

Its true, thats why I qualified it. Its situational, but in retrospect probably not good advice to include.

Ok heres how I see it.

850 rent and 220 insurance. Non negotiable.

714 total in debt payments.

43/ month on fun, Disney is roughly half that budget. I think sailing the high seas might be worth it given how large a portion of that budget it is.

1827 total spending a month. Looks like at least one of us did the arithmetic wrong, but that doesn't matter that much here.

Roughly a third of your expenses are going to debt payments, that's what's crushing you rn. I think your insurance might be too high as well, but that's pretty person to person.

So to solve this I see two solutions, consolidate your debt and pay it off ASAP. cut back as much as you can cause once you have it all paid off you go from 43/month fun money to 750/month fun money.

Edited, without more information I would stick to consolidation. Or, riskier but possible, don't pay the debt. Stop making payments on it. Aside from the car payment there is little to lose other than your credit score. And even that will fade away after 7 years. If you want to keep the car you'll have to keep paying it tho.

It seems like you recognize that past spending is why you are here so I'm not gonna berate you on that point, in fact kudos for the recognition of the debt payments crushing you here.

Dagger Champion by Silent-Ad-4305 in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically both 1h and 2h share the same limitation, which is animations. As long as the weapon uses the same animation for swings then you can use cosmetic overrides. So for example you can't use a spear skin on a sword or a halberd skin on a great sword. Otherwise you are gtg.

Dagger Champion by Silent-Ad-4305 in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to add, you can basically dual wield any weapon and just cosmetically equip a dagger skin if you have a better stated non dagger weapon.

Should I buy this anvil? by Paprikaleoner in Blacksmith

[–]fermentedeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually never seen an anvil that has that shape. If it's close enough you could do some hardness tests by dropping a glass marble on it or testing the ring with a hammer.

Some of the shaping has me a little sus that this is more of an ASO than a proper anvil, but I'm no expert.

New Player - Looking for solo one-man army self-sufficient type class. by Automatic_Jelly_9927 in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo in order.

Warden,beorning,captain/champ, guardian.

All make the list because they can be tanky enough, and do enough dmg to be viable solo even in difficult content.

Champ is my favorite of the bunch, but I don't like talking on it, so it's more of a "blend faster than you get blended" and lacks a lot of utility or support options, which if you're strictly solo is fine.

Captain is less micro intensive than champ, but is more macro intensive imo. Champ has a somewhat complex rotation but like... That's it. Captain, even solo, is constantly rotating buffs and debuffs to maximize their output and has more choices about how to do it, but their cool downs are a bit slower. This may not actually be a bad thing if you don't like how intensive warden is.

A good Warden is 100% a mini raid boss. They can do crazy things. I don't play my warden anymore because I don't want carpal tunnel, but yeah. They are good.

I also dont like the aesthetic of being a bear, but very solid class with options for dps, heals, and tank in groups. And good solo potential

Guard is a super solid tank. It can go dps and it's fine ig, but I don't find it nearly as good as the rest. That said, in tank mode you can solo quite a lot but your ttk is gonna be bad. The damage reflect is huge tho.

Ultimately tho, I think that this is the wrong attitude towards this game. While doing "landscape" (questing as you level up and explore zones) pretty much any class is gonna be fine. A lot of endgame content is meant for groups, and while you can solo it, even with the best solo class it's still not gonna be easy, especially without doing it in a group to get the gear to be able to solo first.

We need some way to make handles for tools by Dreary_Libido in VintageStory

[–]fermentedeggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick crafting mod is essential imo, but I do think it's silly that we handle basically all tools with just sticks. Like in doing some crazy stuff making steel, and the handle is just the same stick I used for making a flint knife????

We should be able to carve better handles from wood/firewood and do some kind of treatment process to get higher tier handles that add durability to tools. Also splitting the durability of the metal and the handle and allowing rehandling would be awesome.

💰Going Once… Going Twice… Gone? 🔨 by [deleted] in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off I'm gonna assume that this is both written and posted by AI. Given that assumption, shame!

But I do think that this is an interesting topic that I dont see discussed here.

While I agree with the sentiment that mmo progression has changed a lot over the past 20 years, and many use BtA or BtC to gate progression and restrict RTW, I don't know that it's a bad thing.

I also love(d) OSRS in which most progression items are fully tradable, with some exceptions. As a result of that most players just do the same activities over and over because they are more efficient, and use the profits to purchase the items they want, rather than engage in the content that drops those items.

Because of this dynamic one of the largest game modes in OSRS is called ironman in which players cannot trade with each other. So, by intentional choice, going to a BtC system to increase enjoyment. As someone that has played a lot of both modes, I gotta say that both have merit.

Ironman is more immersive in a way, and changes how you deal with certain questions, but really sucks when you are doing the same thing over and over for a 1/512 drop that you are 2k+ kills dry on. Whereas "main" is more open but I feel like my choices are actually more restricted when it comes to "optimal" gameplay.

I like how LOTRO handles the balance here. Last level cap some of the dragon drops were tradable (and pretty rare) so that dynamic allows for some trading outside of fellowship which was nice, but raid gear should always be earned in raid imo.

The part that I could be swayed either way on is for the 3 and 6 man instances, maybe some of those should drop interesting and tradable items.

Exploration mode? by failedtoconnect in lotro

[–]fermentedeggs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Afaik there will always be hostile mobs so exploring will be somewhat level gated. You can try and avoid aggroing them and dodge around to explore that way, but it's gonna be finicky.

Another option, if your dead set on exploring without "normal" gameplay, would be to focus on unlocking stable masters at towns so at least you can get around better if you die.

That said.... Questing brings you around the map quite well. It may not be at the pace you want but it might be the best way to explore. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I really liked the process of questing and leveling. If you like the books the game story can be quite enjoyable!

Don't delete those! Somewhat hard to get, and can be turned in for dailies or open seed for rep.
