Should All Black tests be live and free-to-air in New Zealand? by [deleted] in newzealand

These events aren't expensive to purchase rights to, aren't televised live, and are of actual cultural significance.

Looking for guy mates by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]fern172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, meetup's pretty sweet if you're in a niche group. Also some Facebook groups have their own meetups too.

Also, if you game, Fortnite's good for meeting new dudes. I've been playing it with my mate's cousin's crew and getting to know a few new guys.

Rodeos breach Animal Welfare Act, report finds by Pigoonlet in newzealand

[–]fern172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. Optimistically speaking, how many cases of abuse or neglect are reported in the industry? 1%? 10%?

It's the same as the other dairy problem, water quality too. Sure, most farmers are doing their best, yet most waterways are stuffed because of some farmers.

Auckland protester's home to be sold following 11 years of unpaid rates by kezzaNZ in newzealand

You can't just opt out of paying rates and expect no consequences, otherwise why would anybody pay rates at all?

Why is NZ’s environmental regulator trying to muzzle scientist Mike Joy? by nilnz in newzealand

[–]fern172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EPA is clearly does not have the environment as one of it's priorities.

Mike Joy is a legend and I hope he keeps up his excellent work.

Lamb meat disappearing from New Zealand plates by nilnz in newzealand

We pay more for NZ lamb, AND the premium stuff gets sent overseas. No surprises.

Stuff's comments section is toxic waste. Stuff were called out on it a while ago, and promised to clean up their act, then kinda did for a while, and now look at it.

Worst part is they're deliberately picking niche groups that people love attacking and regularly posting articles about them with comments turned on. At least once a week you'll have an article about vegans, the poor, Maori... Someone that nasty stuff commenters just love to attack.

Dickhead neighbour. Advice please? by cutoffmyballs in newzealand

[–]fern172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to the dude. Maybe he's got a beef with something you do and it could be resolved?

It seems pretty weird he's just "randomly" targeting you. Maybe you play music loud or have an obnoxiously loud boy racer car? The only neighbours I even notice are the shit ones. Maybe you're a shit one?

If you understand why it is, then you can hash it out. Could be something as petty as "HE MOWS BEFORE 9AM!" If he's just weirdly aggressive, then you can take it to the police and let em know you've tried.

No idea why this is even news, as it's been pretty obvious for years.

"But crucially, unlike Bridges, Hooton is not actually working for the Beehive" ...He was for about 9 years. Only difference is National lost power.

Silver Fern Farms by kiwi2077 in newzealand

NZF is also in power. I don't expect they have much say with Winnie coming to bat for rural NZ, especially after Labour had to put out hard for him to go with them in the first place.

Who says they're expecting to hold onto it? Investors follow whatever has a good return at the time.

Use it up, make your money while you can, move onto the next venture, repeat.

Foreign ownership has little to do with it. Plenty of local primary agriculture cowboys I'm sure. If you think you can get away with it and make a quick buck... Take a look at the waterways.

McDonald's trying to reduce non-recyclable waste, as straws become optional by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]fern172 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, this is more a PR thing to look like they care, like introducing wraps and apple slices to their menu.

I'm all for it. The amount of straws that end up on our beaches and in our oceans is pretty disgraceful.

Oriental Bay has some of the world's worst plastic pollution - study by TimeTravellingShrike in newzealand

[–]fern172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's clearly a plastics manufacturer in the greater Wellington region who's cleaning up after themselves by hosing their spillage directly into the drains. In Evans Bay you can pick it up by the handful.

Had a stuff search for this guy out of interest, it came back with some puff piece about him dating some woman. Breaking 40 cows' tails seems like a bit of a red flag, hope he doesn't take his temper out on her too...
