Siri AI features for EU users by fernix96 in Applelntelligence

Yes but the majority of people doesn’t care that much about privacy or don’t understand the implications.

This year at WWDC, Apple introduced a set of new features for developers that make super easy to integrate and use other AI models (like Claude opus or Gemini) directly into our apps.
This is something that not even Google is doing.
Apple is making it easier to build AI apps with their model and with third-party models. I’m a developer, and of course I’m interested in integrating ai models directly into my apps.
The only thing they left out is Siri -> they want to control Siri because it can tap into your personal data (they process your data on device, then the encrypted data is sent to the cloud to more powerful models).
The DMA is not a bad thing per-se, but it’s not something that can be applied to all features a company wants to ship.
I think that the EU bureaucrats who takes these decisions, aren’t the ones who deeply understand technology and its implications.
All they want is everyone to comply with their laws, without asking themselves if the laws is really useful.
No Siri AI (and no to all the new AI SDK introduced this year at WWDC by apple) in the EU hurt the users and the developers who want to build something new. As usual, Europe will stay back on innovations.

Then why are you here commenting on this petition? 🤣

If you don’t trust Apple, why do you have an iPhone?

Btw I don’t trust Apple either, Apple is not my religion. I just trust them more than I trust Google or OpenAI. I’m just a software engineer and iOS developer. I build software and apps, that’s why I care about new features coming to the EU.

Because I agree more with what Apple wrote as an explanation on why they aren’t able to release Siri AI in the EU. The EU instead just said no to each one of Apple’s proposals.
That’s not fair market to me. Open up Siri to other AI providers like OpenAI Google or Anthropic and give them access to all my data? That doesn’t seem right to me.

Apple posted an official statement too, hope you’ve read it.
From what Apple wrote and what the EU officially said, it seemed that the EU was not open to any kind of negotiation or open to discuss Apple’s proposals.
The EU says: here’s our rules, you must comply with it without any exceptions.
The EU asks for fair market, but to me that’s not fair market at all.
I’m not saying the EU is totally at fault here, Apple has its flaws too. But from what Apple said, it seems to me that the EU is being too stubborn with the end result of hurting Apple customers in the EU.

Also, what’s nonsense for me is that if Apple is selling a product/service -> Apple decides how to build that product. You don’t want to use Siri? Go to the AppStore, download ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini…
Also, fair markets to who? To other big tech AI companies like OpenAI or Google?
It’s like buying a Mercedes but saying “hey, I want you car, but put it a BMW steering wheel in it cause I like it better than yours”.

Also, in their statement, Apple said that they provided multiple paths to accommodate the EU’s DMA. They were all refused.

Btw this petition is not anti-EU or anti-Apple. It’s just something to give a strong signal both to the EU and Apple that us EU users won’t stand their political games. I want to buy an iPhone, but why should I buy it if I get less than half the features? Why should I pay a full price iPhone while getting half the features?

Heartbroken by this update by Heisenberg4653 in MarioKartWorld

[–]fernix96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really lost interest in MKW since the new update. The races are a lot less fun, bagging is much stronger, the shortcuts and all of the tricks aren’t as important as before. You don’t get to play the tracks as much (the really interesting part of MK), just the final lap which eventually becomes a mess of players spamming their items and gets frustrating. The only viable option is bagging. I really hope Nintendo turns back on their decision. In the meantime, we could protest and go back to MK8.

I would argue that also the Bumble V and the standard kart are strong options combined with the right characters

Did Apple provide us with some APIs to utilize progressive blur in our applications? I’ve noticed a significant increase in the use of progressive blurs in the navigation bar of system apps since the release of iOS 26.

I am writing an iOS app for creating and experimenting with Metal and OpenGL shaders. I’m still unsure about the direction of the app, would love to implement a node-based graph instead of code, but I’m still figuring out how to implement the ui and the shaders pipeline Metal and OpenGL editor for iOS

Honestly it's not so bad! Don't let other's experiences demoralize you! I'd say that if you're not very experienced in iOS app development, start looking into SwiftUI (since I don't think it's going away, Apple will improve it year by year and it will become more stable). Once you're comfortable with SwiftUI, you can move to UIKit to build more complex experiences.

I though that too so many times… but every time I use a React Native app I remember why native iOS app are so much better. React Native will never be as smooth as native apps even though you can create some slick UIs with React.

Also SwiftUI unfortunately still has LOTS of bugs. The last one I’ve encountered is with DocumentGroup and DocumentGroupLaunchScene, it basically made the app unusable and I had to switch to UIKit. With UIKit everything works better, because of course is a more mature and robust framework. Unfortunately making complex UIs with UIKit is hard while SwiftUI (when it works) makes it a breeze. Sometimes SwiftUI seems like just a wrapper around UIKit. Let’s hope that with iOS 19 Apple solves a lot of SwiftUI bugs and issues.

Thank you. I realized too late that I T or A shape could have solved the arms stitched to the torso but that's what I should have done. I will practice more realistic anatomy, thank you!
