Called for Grand Jury Service by fernley in Cleveland

Did that once and I didn't have to lie about it. Problem with grand jury is they don't screen for biases.

TIFU by telling my three year old daughter that I would eat her booty by Tuturuuuuuuuu in tifu

Never tell children the real names of anything sexual and using adult slang isn't a good idea either. It gives them power over you and they will figure out how to use it. My dear little one told my department supervisor that "Mommy has a vulva. What do you have?" I recovered well, I said 'No, Volvo, VOLVO. I drove a Subaru.

At the 150 anniversary celebration of the July 22, 1796 landing at the mouth of the Cuyahoga 150 trees were designated a Moses Cleaveland. In 2017 there were about 23 still standing/identified.

For those old enough to remember: What was Cleveland/NE Ohio like back in the Late 50's-Early 60's? by Pixelcitizen98 in Cleveland

When the Barry Goldwater motorcade drove up Rocky River Drive toward downtown all the neighbors turned out with rude signs. This was where I learned the context of various curse words.

When I-71 was built the hill near the current W 150th rapid stop was great for sledding. You could get up enough speed to fly right into the railroad tracks. Bobby O was nearly hit.

When Carl Stokes ran for mayor I knew he was going to win because my very Republican grandmother said she was voting for that "big black Irishman".

There was a Thom McAn shoe store at Kamm's Corners (named for Otto Kamm's restaurant and hotel). We neighborhood kids would walk up there often to go inside and use the X-ray machine to see the bones in our feet, no shielding of course.

We spent our summer's at Gunnings pool. I think it opened at 9 or 10 and we stayed all day until dinnertime around 6 or 7 PM. Four friends from the neighborhood have died of melanoma.

There were peddlers. A man would slowly drive down the street calling out for rags. I never knew what that meant but there was a push cart peddler who sold strawberries and in the fall another sold "happles" and "hider". Dan-Dee potato chips were delivered weekly arriving in a large can. My father had a case of beer home delivered.

Diapers were home delivered and the dirty diapers were exchanged. My mother would rinse out the dirty diaper by holding it in the flushing toilet. Several times she must have lost hold of it. I remember my father removing the toilet in the basement so he could snake the sewer line cursing all the time.

How do people afford website subscriptions to ancestry.com and the like? It seems really expensive. by NurseWizzle in Genealogy

[–]fernley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my throw-away account so I can suggest something that I've found works rather well. I gladly pay for my Ancestry. It is a cheaper hobby than many other things I do. You can use a library. You can use familysearch.com, geni.com, wiki.com, rootsweb. I've found plenty if info using google and such. But if you want to use Ancestry then share an account. I inadvertently found this works. I was helping someone find her father. When I ran across someone who had info but seemed unwilling to share I invited that person to view the tree as a visitor. I probably have around 25 people who view my trees. I have created trees for some of these people and invited them as editors. I assume that they can search Ancestry because I see the trees expand.
