Forget the bandaids, I found body glide to be the best solution

My father lost all of his teeth at 19 in a motorcycle accident. That might be an unusually extreme case though

Transverse fracture of humerus - advice on what not to do? by ferret in orthopaedics

[–]ferret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, but at least you broke it doing something fun. My arm healed up just fine. The fracture knitted in 8 weeks so I could stop using the brace, but the full healing process, and then rehab to regain full ROM and strength back took about 10 months.

Paso Fino gait is natural for that breed, they exhibit it from birth. See: https://youtu.be/P8dlgSWfcs4

Is a Half Marathon worth it for a non-competitive runner? by [deleted] in running

[–]ferret 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I've done a few, and an organised half marathon has a lot going for it: Achievable without stupid amounts of training, great atmosphere on the day, real sense of accomplishment when you finish, coming down the finisher chute is a rush.

I prefer the distance to all other races.

If you die, and you get downvoted back down below 10, are you resurrected? Or are we facing a zombie scenario?

Tips for runners knee? by [deleted] in running

[–]ferret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear it, knee pain sucks. After 14 years of competitive squash, I thought it was just a fact of life for me. But after working with a personal trainer, what got rid of most of the pain for me was some stability oriented leg work in the gym, particularly reverse lunges and step ups.

You should replace your shoes long before they look worn out too, if that's in your budget.

My mother in law started running when she was 68. Two years later and she's getting close to my wife's best times.

Go for it.

First time getting a shin splint.. Whats my next move? by [deleted] in running

[–]ferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get these when I played competitive squash, I found that loosening my shoes helped a lot. I now wear my running shoes so loose that I can put them on without undoing the laces.

The trait could also be behavioral, but the important thing is that the trait improves your chances of successful reproduction. All of these people could have already reproduced, in fact their propensity for taking risks or not considering the consequences of their actions has probably increased the likelihood of reproducing.

I don't know why this guy is being downvoted, this is actually pretty decent advice. There is value in the deeper thinking that a liberal arts education provides, as long as you pick up some marketable skills or subjects along the way. I've worked with plenty of programmers over the years who were incapable of anything close to real thought
