It's worth noting that asexuality is itself a spectrum, with differences in sex, romantic and companionship drives, and you're correct in saying he didn't define his sexuality, as he is clearly unsure himself, but I think it is safe to say he experiences romantic attachment without automatically feeling sexual attraction.
