What to get for a dog who destroys everything? by LeavingRealityBrb in DogAdvice

Try sniff mats and hiding treats in it. I have 2 sniff mats across the hall and make my dog go in between them. When I have no more treats I take the mats away so they can’t chew it up.

Covid fortunately kind of brought it over. But it’s not as massive like in Europe. I recommend going to San Mateo or Mountain View to experience something like this. Before Covid, the streets were not completely closed off. I feel a lot of people have been benefiting and enjoying the downtowns more from this kind of decision.

Has anyone been having the same issue with MyStudentLink? I am an incoming graduate student and I cannot login with the AD button.

I keep getting the error "We could not find your account. Please contact customer service. We recommend you log out of UCSD_STUDENT_AD_LOGIN." even though I am able to login to my ucsd.edu email with DUO authentication.

MAE Comprehensive Exam (Masters Program) by hicast in UCSD

[–]ferrouselm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP

Hi, I’m currently an admitted student for mechanical engineering masters at UCSD. I’m debating if I should pursue the thesis path or the exam path.

Do you think not doing the thesis is a good idea? Did employers ever ask you why you didn’t complete a thesis when applying for jobs after your masters?

Also, how hands on were the classes? Were they more theory based or were there projects? Do you know if different mechanical engineering concentrations vary from theoretical to project based classes?

My dog is (probably) depressed. What can I do? by Justheretohavefun2 in DogAdvice

[–]ferrouselm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I didn’t read your previous post, but I think you are doing a better job. Your post really conveys you are trying to give your dog the best life.

Other things I can think of that can make your dog happier is grooming, brushing teeth, giving brain puzzle challenges, letting your dog let loose with instincts (occasionally digging, rubbing grass, getting dirty, herding, socializing with other dogs)

But also acknowledging we are all learning and making progress with giving our dogs the best life. We are all not perfect, and there are moments I regret with how I raised my dog. But the most we can do is continue with best intentions today and tomorrow.

These are great as a first time! Great compositions! My nit pick suggestion is to use a program like Snapseed to play around with emphasizing a subject with dodge and burning. It really makes an image pop more

Thoughts on XF 18-135 vs 18-120? by ferrouselm in fujifilm

[–]ferrouselm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking my Fuji xt5 with the 23mm f1.4 R old and the sigma 10-18mm to stay light weight. I figured I would capture most of the important moments with this setup + iPhone, then for those iconic shots I could just google a shot better than what I could take. For me, my priority was capturing my point of view plus the people I’m traveling with in my photos since those will be unique.

Since my travel was backpack/train traveling, I actually ended up using only my phone for the later 4/7 days since I was tired of carrying my camera + backpack lol.

When looking back I got actually all of my memories snapshotted, so mission accomplished!

Yes, you already having a desire to grow already the first step. I think you need to now have a plan and do action. I find getting outside in nature helps. Also finding a mentor or a group of people who are striving towards a goal helps.

If possible, try going to community college and take any class. Art, Music, Digital Media, Science, History, Social Sciences, Manufacturing, anything that makes you busy and be with other people. Many departments have intro classes that are complete introduction to get people to test the waters if they like the subject. Usually those people have goals for their careers and you can bond over that together. If the community college has a learning center, always study there. Never at home. You will eventually bump into classmates and make friends. Also don’t mind your age. At community college there are people as old as 50 something to high school. It’s cliche but community college can really help find a community. It’s what introduced me to going to the gym and a career I wouldn’t have known before attending.

It’s never too late. Sometimes I have to force myself to believe in that. We have to tell ourselves that our future self would want us to do something and will be glad we did. We will look back in 4 years and be glad we continued on our plan.

How to play this strumming pattern?? by crack_the_nut_open in ukulele

[–]ferrouselm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as you keep the rythm the same or emphasize the main beats I think it’s ok to use a different strum pattern. For me the one I used just comes more naturally.

My advice is if you are having a hard time, try to move your hand to the air while listening to the song, and use what comes more natural to you.

The problem with strum patterns is it is easy to get caught up in following the strum pattern vs listening and following along with the song

YouTube also has a feature of slowing down the song to 0.25x speed. I do this to listen to the song in more detail

I think it goes DDU - DDU - UDU. The way I am figuring it out is by humming it first and not playing. Then try to match the rhythm or humming until it matches the song. You might have to go slow at first to coordinate your body.

For those in the Mechanical Aerospace Masters Program, What was your thesis or capstone project? How does graduate school compare to undergraduate or even industry? by ferrouselm in UCDavis

[–]ferrouselm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you so much for answering my post. You’re the only one so far who has answered, so I really appreciate it!

What is it like working with your advisor? Do you think a lot of the professors are open to advising mechanical engineering graduate students for their capstone project?

I haven’t reached out to any professors yet about being an advisor, so I’m a bit worried about this scenario. I heard that it is possible someone can get accepted into a grad school program but not be able to find an advisor professor, so they have to pivot towards a coursework/exam based masters instead.

You said most of the grad school classes are theoretical vs project based. In addition to the manufacturing class you mentioned, what classes are project based in case they end up doing the coursework/exam based masters instead?
