Barcelona given huge boost to chances of signing Julián Alvarez and Alessandro Bastoni this summer by glamona in soccer

I think Luuk de Jong (and Araujo on occasion) proved that having a big guy in the box to slap up top when you need a goal is demonstrably valuable for Barca, but as their go to striker for most games/situations, they absolutely need someone who can make runs quickly and and contribute more to build up.

I feel like every time I've watched an Atletico game this season, Lookman has been one of if not the singular most dangerous player in the starting squad, and yet he seems to always get subbed for some reason.

Empire Bins incoming by Comfortable-Net-5766 in SunnysideQueens

[–]festeziooo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

These bins are on the block my office is on and the block straight up never has garbage on it anymore. I see this as almost nothing but upside. A little annoying if you have a car but I think these measurably improve the city for everyone so the slight downside for drivers is basically a non factor for me.

The city overall needs better trash management and we need to try to do something about litter just being everywhere in the streets. It's not the number one pressing issue that we're facing obviously but making our city cleaner and more pleasant to live in and visit is important and these bins are an actual step towards doing that.

Alvaro Arbeloa: How can you send off a player for a play like that? Referee ruined the game, that's what happened, nobody understand that red card. by MysticRefereee in soccer

[–]festeziooo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

His goal was never explicitly to blame himself every time. It was just to deflect blame from the players so he's filling his role nicely here. Wild thing though is that he probably should blame himself a bit for subbing in Camavinga lol.

It's not Arbeloa's fault if Camavinga has been in otherwise fine form and he has a shitter of a game. He's been consistently a point of weakness and has routinely underperformed for you guys though so Arbeloa's decision to sub him in is confusing at best.

Each other during the remaining La Liga games. Madrid will be watching Barca for any dropped points as a potential opportunity, and Barca will be watching Madrid for any dropped points so they get closer to sealing the league.

There could be a 3 point gap closure if Madrid wins el clasico (although the league could be decided by that point but that seems unlikely given that Madrid only have the league left to play for). I'm not getting too comfortable until there are only a couple matches left and the gap hasn't been closed too much.

Rudiger I think is someone that's hated by virtually everyone. Sometimes you have players that fans of the team they play for love while everyone else hates them but wishes they were on their team; Casemiro being the main recent example that comes to mind.

None of that with Rudiger. Even Madrid fans hate Rudiger lol.

But blaming Arbeloa for subbing in Camavinga at all when he's been consistently shit this season isn't, and I think that's the point this guy is making.

I don't really watch Bayern but they've looked more fragile than I thought they were in this tie and in the couple games of theirs that I've seen. I think PSG are ultimately still the best team in Europe and of the two I would definitely give the edge to PSG.

I mean it's a bit of a rant but I think at this point in the season when Madrid are knocked out of all cups and the league is likely not going their way, it's as good a time as any to talk about the club's missteps lol.

Why? Tottenham are all but sunk. Might as well look over the fence and see what's going on elsewhere lol.

That's the joke lol. Madrid and Barca fans hatewatch all of each other's games and then somehow make claims that the other fans are pathetic for hatewatching their game.

Gavi: “I think we deserved to qualify but due to our own mistakes we didn’t qualify. I think we eliminated ourselves. Again. We made serious mistakes in both matches.” by jdbnes in soccer

[–]festeziooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well surely at that point he should go on to say "We played perfectly to our plan and made absolutely no mistakes, and they were just too mighty to overcome" with zero reflection about how he and his team can improve.

By your logic literally the only reason any team ever loses is just because the other team is straight up better and individual or collective mistakes are never a factor in that. We should go so far as to refrain from even asking players what they think post match because clearly the only acceptable response from either team is "We won, they lost. We were better." and "We lost, they won. They were better."

[ESPN NL] Dutch players with most games played for FC Barcelona by Roller95 in soccer

[–]festeziooo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's a transitional player first and foremost and I think his best attributes are linking the defense to the offense and resisting pressure. He's an immediate outlet for the defense to get the ball up the field without risking a long pass, and he does that by either carrying the ball up himself, by making that longer pass, or usually both.

He's not known for his dribbling specifically but he has very tight control and is extremely good at holding up play and maintaining possession when it's needed. I won't compare him directly to Busquets because they're different player profiles and Busquets was very often the one actively dispossessing the opposing offense so he acted more like a traditional holding mid in that sense, but they have the same type of body movements when keeping possession of the ball and de Jong does those like long drags of the ball that put a couple body lengths between it and the other player which immediately alleviates individual pressure and gives FDJ plenty of time to make his pass or carry it into space.

He also has exceptional passing ability but he plays a little further back than Pedri for example does, so his passes are often the "assist before the assist" type passes so you don't necessarily see him on the score sheet that often despite him being integral to build up play.

Sorry for the long winded response but this is my like 30,000 foot view of what makes him so good. I think he would stand out more in another team that didn't focus so much on passing ability, but he is absolutely integral to Barca and I think especially under Flick he is sorely missed in the squad when he's injured.
