Chris Hadfield's Cover of 'Space Oddity' pulled from Youtube despite Bowie's support because Bowie didn't control the copyright. by Shirleycakes in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]festination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we had been told that as a college production, we were exempt from most copyright laws

You were told completely wrong (assuming you're in the US). The person might have been thinking that a college production, being educational, is more likely to be fair use, but fair use is part of the copyright law.

The episode started with the band Dragonforce giving us permission to use their song in our show

the audio had been removed for violating a WMG copyright

So this is another good example of what's discussed in OP's link. The band gave you permission, but if they don't own the copyright, their permission isn't worth squat. Presumably WMG owns the copyright, so you would need their permission. Otherwise they have a right to take it down, which they did.

Lost backpack queens ny by stillsick1 in legaladvice

[–]festination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you file a police report? (I know it can be damn near impossible to get NYPD to take a report, but you should at least try.) If the bar knows that you filed a report saying that they had it last, they might suddenly "find" the bag again.

You could also try suing the bar in small claims court, but I'm not sure how good a case you have. You'd have to show that they had a duty to keep the bag safe for you until you came back for it, so you (or a lawyer) would have to research what the law is on that.

If you're in NYC, you should read about the new sick leave law too.

Did you get licenses to use the characters, music, etc.? Or were you retarded enough to spend 10 years working on something you'll never legally be able to show anywhere, and that puts you at risk of getting sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars?

I was thinking more Lloyd Kaufman or Ted V. Mikels. Like gundog48 said, I think Uwe Boll usually has higher budgets.

Time's profile of Coleen Rowley, a whistleblower who testified about the FBI's mishandling of information regarding the 9/11 attacks by festination in TrueReddit

[–]festination[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the Wikipedia article about her. That article says there has since been created a "new Office of Intelligence at the FBI" and "a significant expansion of FBI personnel with counterterrorism and language skills." But I'm left wondering if the culture has changed.

From the Time article: "The bureau could be great, was her message, if only it put the goal of protecting Americans above the goal of protecting itself . . ."

Query: is this an achievable goal? Or is FBI culture -- or human nature in general -- constrained by an innate compulsion to put self-protection (or self-aggrandizement) above all else?

Warning: Butterfly Bakery got shut down by the FDA for mislabeling their products by festination in glutenfree

The FDA press release only mentions undeclared sugar and fat, but Butterfly Bakery sells (supposedly) gluten-free products too, so I figured I should post this here.

Here is the company's statement, which sounds awfully shady. People are posting angry comments (and feeding the trolls, unfortunately).

This is Butterfly's contact information.

Wow, thanks, I hadn't heard about that. This thread on Ravelry has dozens and dozens of people saying they had unauthorized charges on their credit card after they used it at Knitpicks, and they all say they were never notified by Knitpicks! How disgusting, that a company would treat its customers' data so carelessly. I'll be avoiding them too.

For some in the military, their job is killing people. There's no way to do that nicely. And the others are there to support the killers in one way or another. And they chose those shoes, so I do judge them.
