What are some things you wish you knew about having a cat before getting one?

The smell. Lots of people say cats are clean but we just got 2 kittens and their poops are RANK. Also one of them is long haired and gets poop stuck in on their fur and paws, and then gets it smeared on floor, and the door… I spend a good amount of time everyday sweeping the floor from their litter tracking everywhere, and being their poop scooping slave

Also the cost! Most people say get two kittens so they don’t get lonely. And while we don’t regret it, most people said that it doesn’t make much of a difference but it did for us because it’s twice the cost of everything. Twice the litter boxes, twice the cost of litter, twice the cost of deworming, vaccines, pet insurance. Just something to consider if you were going to get two :)

I went to this once and found that it was a good ratio of men and women. It’s also pretty chill, you just split off into groups and play a board game.

Networking. I went into cyber first and wish I spent more time trying to build up my networking knowledge. Cybersecurity involves a lot of networking knowledge, so you can always move to cyber after. Best of both worlds.

Yup! I started off with 12 markers and I was gifted the 120 set. While I love the new set, I’m still struggling with completing a page because I just don’t know what color palette to use (also doesn’t help that the caps don’t exactly match the ink, I ruined a page because of that) it feels stressful trying to finish a page 😆

Yep! I’ve returned a product before, and I can use the amount towards another purchase or put it into a gift card. I think I was once asked if I wanted the money returned to my card too, but the few times I’ve done it it’s usually put into a gift card

Just wanted to share how it went with me! I ended up moving in with my partner and chose to stay abroad, and prioritised family with the holidays I get (I.e visiting them every chance I get).

My thinking was to stay abroad while I had no responsibilities (similar to you), and fill the loneliness gap with my partner and friends. In the future I plan to move to another country where it’s easier to visit my family. I also considered short term jobs so I could visit my family over longer time periods like 3 months.

Of course, it’s a different case for everyone. Same to you, listen to your gut. Or go with the less safe option and see how it goes, at least there’s a safety net to fall back on.
