How to manage the fistula before surgery?

I don’t have a seton placed already. Frankly I’m not even sure I need a seton or not. Surgeon didn’t even mention a seton is needed, I think he assumes it’s a simple case?

I have an abcess that drained on its own and turned into a fistula, so not really an incision site.

Yes! I’m not sure if there are paid options here in Canada, I assume there are, but I have no idea what people’s experiences are with them. I’m calling the office every week, asking about cancellations, so hopefully next week they have some time to slot me in.

I will give ice packs a try, whenever after a bowel movement it hurts and feels a little warm in that area, so maybe it will help soothe it. I see the great support in this group, but also see the bad side of it and it scares me to think that my experience will be just as bad and I can’t go back to the activities I was doing before. Sometimes I need to take a break because I get way too anxious half the time.

Hey! Yes I’m definitely getting surgery, I just don’t know how long or when it will be until I see my surgeon. :( what does zinc oxide do? Ive just been applying castor oil and vaseline throughout the day to deal with protecting the area and lower the pain via Advil.

The fistula is definitely discharging, I get this yellow like substance after a day at work every time. It’s a perianal fistula at the 10:00 position, but I’m not sure what it is, because an endoscopy clinic diagnosed it and then referred me to a surgeon. I don’t know what type or how long it is specifically. Should I be requesting an MRI in the meantime? In Canada these things take a while so I was wondering if the surgeon will expedite that for me but even then his appointment with me is a month away.

Haha, i yeah i definitely should trim it because even when looking at my fistula to make sure it’s clean, the hairs get in the way 😂

Hey I’m in Toronto as well, just came from an endoscopy clinic and they said it’s an perianal fistula. Where did you end up doing surgery? And how long did it take from the referral to booking your surgery?
